whats it take to change them out ... do you have to change out all the wiring and controls??? it's on a pontoon ... will the steering still work??? any one done this before??? and who could do something like this...I have a pretty new honda 250 and want to go to a 350/400 merc.... thanks...

I know when ordering a Bennington you have to select what pre-rig option you want. The gauges and throttle are specific to the motor. I would call your dealer and ask.

NMEA 2000 compatabilty..
Depends on your 250.. Modules and drop downs are available for the electronics..

depends on your steering system on the Honda if its compatible to the Merc

you will need a new wiring control harness as shifter/controller in most cases. most analog gauges are transferable but digital ones can sometimes be tricky to convert. your merc is likely going to want smartcraft stuff or you will need a conversion box for analog gauges. if you have cable steering, it's compatible provided your wanting to use a merc OB that's doesn't have electric steering, NFB at a minimum for your desired HP. you probably should go full hydraulic tho. if hydraulic like Seastar, it's generally still compatible with maybe an adapter or 2 at the most back at the engine.

Didn't you just get a new toon with a 350?

here was my thought,... with the cost of doing a repower, just the motor is 40k.... and i'd still have a 5 yr old toon.... my toon only runs 43-45 mph on pin.. and I wanna be able to cruise at that speed and still have some left...although my toon is still as new, the honda kills it for me...

Buy another Honda and run twins?
you would have to change all the toons , move the center to the outside, get another center tube for the other side, and move the outside to the center...

I had Lakeland Marine in Havasu re-power my 2000 Bennington with a Honda to a 2019 Mercury Outboard in 2021. Had to change the shifter and wiring. Kept the Seastar hydraulics. My gauges were analog so they stayed working. I was very happy with the work and it has never skipped a beat.

Gotcha

One other difference my friend's new 350 Verado powered toon has, that his Honda 250 powered toon did not have, is outside lifting strakes on the pontoon logs. Theres some added strakes on the new one. Just an FYI - part of the performance gain may be in the logs. The new boat looks like it really airs out and carries the nose without much trim, compared to the old one.

Another thing is that his 350 Verado is all DTS control on throttle / sift, whereas the Honda 250 was standard cable controls.

Hopefully some of that info helps.

We are getting old and time is not on our side, sell the pontoon today and go buy the Pontoon/boat you want now and get on the water before your number is called.
Everyday, people should get up, fully aware that you could die that day, and go after the things that you need or want with gusto, because there will be a day that you will be called home and they don't let you bring any of your money/toys..

By the time it all shakes out I think you’d be happier with another hot rod 210 or sell the toon and get a deck boat?

Controls, throttle and shift cables, key switch and harness will all need to be replaced to match new outboard, steering will remain the same.

Go talk to AJ at Barrett Marine. They are a certified Mercury repower shop.

Run the toon on pin. It will be fine Steve, how many hours are you really going to run it before you sell it? 😁

The difference in spending $50K to go between 45 and 55 MPH results in a change of .1666667 miles per minute or 2.5 miles over 15 minutes. What's the hurry?
