Ok so my dumb ass dumps on tahoe which was lifted 8' in the front and 6 in the rear on 20's and 35's bc I turned 145k on it and it started making all sorts of noises. Me being worried about getting out to the river and finding a comfortable SUV that gets decent gas mileage I pick up an 07 4.7 liter Dodge Durango.(the old lady loves it) Its got alot of power and its roomy for 7. Im stuck with the damn thing for a while bc the SUV/truck market blows. So I decided Im gonna put some rims and tires on it. Here is what Im working with I found the rims I want. Now do I buy them in the 22' rim and go for the lowered look? or do I buy the 17's and stick 31's on them to go with the stocky look? here is what im looking at.Now if I go with the 22's Im gonna get the goodyear tires so I will get a 100.00 rebate and 12 mons same as cash. Im gonna pay like 1485.00 for them. Help!

Here are the wheels they are the Gear Alloy double pumps

If it was me I'd go with the 22's...

I think most around here would go the other way.

Dave thats been my thought. I know that no one makes a lift for this truck unless I go custom but I'm done with that with the gas prices the way they are. I did it with my f-150 and my tahoe. Im leaning going with the 22's and buying the matching wheels for the boat in the 16's

I wouldnt do either...the white one looks like a mini van in that pic and the pic with the 31s looks like the rims were an afterthought. They stick out too far and dont go with tghe look of the vehicle.

If you are worried about gas prices leave it stock. when I had my Tahoe with 22s it got worse mileage than my 9" lift Dodge with 37s. Etiher way you are going to use more fuel.

RB how did that happen? I was told if you don't change the diameter or keep it within 2 inch's it won't change gas mileage. I've been told that by 4 different places bc that's bee a concern

I used to tell people when I was selling them a set of wheels it wouldnt really affect their MPG either. ;)

The added weight of the wheel. I ran 245s on my 22s on tahoe and I averaged about 12mpg. The overall diameter was not much larger than stock.

22s are a lot of wheel to get moving and stopping all the time, My Ex has 22s on her Tahoe (2007) and she also sees about 12mpg average. We had them on our older tahoe (2005) and also noticed a decreas and saw a decline on our old Expedition (1999) too.

Yeah RB is right. Its not necessarily the added overall weight but the fact that it is rotational mass. Think of it as putting a heavier flywheel on but times 4.

Does anybody know what determines the miles traveled and or speed reading on an automobile odometer? If you put bigger rims on the vehicle how does that affect the actual "speed" & actual miles traveled readings?

Larger will slow the speedo down and show less miles traveled, smaller will show faster more miles traveled.

a lot of the time the extra rubber on the road causes more rolling resistance that hurts mileage. On my river wagon I went to 275/50-17 from 235/70-15 same diameter and mileage went down.

The added weight of the wheel.

Bingo.

Don't forget to consider braking too. That's going to suck with bigger wheels as well.

Leave it alone dude. Especially if your wife drives it. You don't need the added worry of where she parks it and so forth. My .02.

Why waste money on rims for the grocery getter? At least drive it until it need new tires...

My wife had a Durango and it was pimped up. Biggest POS we EVER owned. Bought her a new Tahoe with factory 20's and never looked back. Watch those friggin Dodge Durangos... Parts go out like nobody's biz...

I hope so. I know I'm a little bit worried about the "rolling resistance" thing about the gas. But man its less then 2" inchs in tire difference. I called my buddy who has a lot more experience with this "rolling resistance" and he says that I shouldn't notice anything at all. He did say if I'm that worried about the 50 series maybe tell them to do the 40 series tire.

RiverKid did she have a gen 1 or a gen 2? Everyone I've said they are pretty good and satisfied with them It tows well its roomy nice ride and packs plenty of punch for the smaller v8. I've done the exhaust and intake on it so far now the wheels and on to the Tint, grill and DVD player/Nav for them long trips. I'm not looking to step up in boat size So It does good towing my 21.

I had the first Gen with the 4.7 and part time 4wd. Man we had a ton of trouble with that thing. So much so I threw in the towel and took a huge bath. I wish you the best of luck with yours. We never saw better than 14 mpg on fwy trip driving and in town we hovered around 9 mpg. POS. The 4.7 is silky smooth and I give Chrysler credit for that.

The more tire you put in the ground the more surface tension or rolling resistance you get. Just like Riverbound said..."no that wont affect your mileage." Cash Check or CC? LOL.
