Congratulations to all of you that have quit. It's tough. And thanks for all your encouragemen and support.

I really think you guys helped me get through this. Once I started this thread I felt (extra) accountable.

A non smoker will never understand how hard it really is to give up.
I agree we will never know truly how hard it is but we do know it's hard and it's why we put forth the support we do, we do want you to succeed. Keep it up, you got this.

Great! Around 7 more years!!!
LOL...
I smoked a pack of Marlboro reds every day for 34 years. When "I decided" I wanted to quit urges stopped on day one with the help from Chantix...been 13 years now.
My older sister is a RN at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. She quit after 21 years some 30 years ago and says there is not a day goes by that she doesn't have the urge have that stick...crazy drug/mindset.
Stick with it and it just gets better as the days pass.

I know, I think he wants to but he has to be ready
This, I'll be the first to admit I still miss it. But I knew it was time and if didn't stop when I did I would be making excuses to myself forever.

The cricket on my shoulder still tells me I can have one every now and then and be fine. But I've come too far to start over again.

It wasn't that long for me. I smoked for about 22 yrs. After I quit it took about a year for me to never crave them. The only time it would enter my mind was if I smelled someone else smoking. Then I would think about it for a second and then continue on what I was doing. Been 23 yrs now.

First time I quit was in Army AIT. Cig's were .18 cents a pak. I had allocated 50 cents a day for leisure spending. Could get a glass of beer for 10 cents so it was 5 beers or 3 beers and a pak of cig's. The cig's went. These just 10 oz beers.

Stay at it. I quit and restarted several times. Now just about 40 years no smoking.

Don't know how I missed this yesterday, but congrats, very happy for you. You'll reach a point where you don't even think about it but maybe a few times a year. I hadn't even noticed, but I was in Bashas the other day and Marlboro's were over $110 a carton:eek: Anyway you got this now👍

Congrats. It’s a tough MF.

Marlboro Reds for 30 plus years here. My brother and I grew up in a 2 plus 1 900 sq. ft. rental duplex with no AC. Both parents smoked 2 packs a day each. The walls and ceilings were absolutely stained yellow.

I’ve been in construction all my life and we all smoked in the trailer as well.

Hardest thing I ever did and I came of age in the 70s if you know what I mean. It’s been well over 15 years now and I still love the smell of smoke. I do partake in 1 cigar a week or so and it doesn’t seem to be a problem.

I also get an annual CT scan of my lungs. I would suggest the same for all those who smoked extensively back in the day.

I don't feel any/much better physically. YET. But I didn't quit because I needed to. ..
I Quit for my family. Not going to keep poisoning myself . Don't want them to have to take care of me st some point for something I could have prevented...
🚬 😋 .
Still want to smoke. But I don't.

Thanks! to all that supported me here! And the supporting pm's.

Right on Endo. Killer job. People who’ve never smoked don’t know the hell it can be. Good job holding yourself accountable.

Looking forward to the one year update.

You’ll start noticing your breathing improving by the end of the summer.
You smell much better…………

Just found out one of my oldest brothers has cancer. Smoked his whole life. Not doing well. I quit a year and a half ago. Dr. says my lungs are clear. Lucky I guess.

Congratulations, keep it up.
I stopped smoking 47 years ago. I use that term because after all that time if I’m downwind from someone who is, I get a strong urge to fire one up. I haven’t yet.

I quit 14 years ago after 34 years of Marlboro Reds. It was easy for me as I wanted to quit but I have heard that it is as addictive to others as heroin.
You have all the right reason to walk away from that nasty life sucking habit and we're here for support so keep up the positive attitude...you got this...

Cancer cures Smoking.

I smoked cigarettes for about as long as you. Probably tried to seriously quit at least 10 times but I always went back to smoking. It got to the point like I felt like a slave to tobacco and didn't even enjoy it anymore. None of my friends smoked anymore so every time that I'd light up I'd get the stink eye. At that point I said Fuck It - I'm Done. Went and got some patches and used those for about a week, then went full blown cold turkey after that. Hardest thing I've ever done for myself. But it was worth it. I seriously don't even miss it anymore. It will be 6 years in September. My advice to you: You have to want it. Otherwise, don't bother!!!

Doing good. Still haven't had a single puff. It's still pretty tough at times when I'm working or tinkering in the garage.

Yesterday was my 4 month smoke free anniversary.
Great news, I hope it's getting a little easier for you now but I'm not surprised you still have tough moments.

It's 100% gotten easier. I don't loose my mind when I have those cravings anymore.
My smoker/helper at work smells terrible when he shows up for work.
The smell of someone lighting up gets me craving one still.
I can smell people smoking a half block away.

Foods taste way better. Been trying things I never liked in the past. The down side is I'm struggling with my weight.

I have friends that have quit and claim the smell of a cigarette is terrible, it's been 12 years for me and although I wouldn't want to be stuck in a smoky room, a fresh lit cigarette still smells great, but it's just a fleeting moment, nothing to act upon. You're actually an Ex- Smoker congrats.

@endobear, you're doing great. Stay vigilant, the urge to light up can overwhelm your efforts to stay clean at anytime.

I had an old roommate that was an ex heroin addict.. (you'd never know).. He told me one time "You ever hear that quitting smoking is harder than quitting heroin? It's absolutely true".

Thinking of picking up zyns today instead of a pack. Hmm
Gotta start sometime, Brother. Now is as good of a day as any.

I quit 10 years ago. Was damn tough.

Today I am starting OMAD, (One Meal A Day). Gotta drop this weight.

Good luck on your mission!

Holy smokes....
It's been 6 months.
It's still a struggle at times. At work mostly. There's no way I'm going back though.
My weights a struggle. But I feel a ton better moving around at work and doing chores in the yard.

Got 3 buddies coming by for garage beers tomorrow. They all smoke...

Well done. I quit a year and a half ago. My brother died a couple months ago from smoking. His wife who just retired is devastated. She is completely lost. She had him cremated and will have a family spreading ashes ceremony on a boat eventually I heard up where she lives in Santa Cruz. We have 9 siblings down here in SoCal. Stay strong bud. It just gets easier. Just know that all your smoking buddies wish they had your strength 💪

So I did in fact pick up zyn instead of some marlboros, i did those for maybe 10 days and then just didn't buy any more.
I have quit like this so many times.

Problem is I love smoking cigs most of the time. I have quit for about 2 years at one point, when you get to the point in the cycle where you absolutely hate the smell of cigarettes then it becomes easy.

Stay strong gentlemen.

Great!

Your family really appreciates it…

My sister and her husband are both smokers. I hate it every time we are together watching her deteriorate over these last 40 years.

Pretty much.
But I sure hope I'm not still shoo buddy Sunday...
Saturday. Yep. I'll be sweating booze as I volunteer at the local half marathon that the wife and daughter are running Saturday morning.

I'm a few weeks ahead of you and i still struggle too. A month or so ago I decided I would smoke half of one, and I was disappointed, not just in myself but in the way it tasted. It wasn't the way I remember it and it did nothing for me, and i hated myself after.
I still walk through casinos and it smells good to me, but smelling it on people not so much. I feel like I'm in purgatory 🤣

Don't let it get to you, just keep going. I quit 11 years ago, and that brief whiff still smells good, but I won't ever go back.

Yesterday was 9 months. Still haven't had a drag. Been tempted. Buddies were over last weekend for garage beers. They both smoke but were smoking cigars. Smelled like ass on 🔥.

Wife and daughter are now "extra" up in my business trying to get me to loose some lbs and cut back on the garage beers. They think quitting the cigs was easy for me and I should do some more life changing. 🤔
