I'm still going good....some days are easier than others.
Right on. Your situation reminds me why its so important to quit. Glad your doing good. Wouldn't want to bet against anyone quitting. We got this.

The real hard part is trying to consume less than 1500 mg of sodium each day....I figured turkey sandwiches would be the way to go, on whole wheat bread. lol. each slice of bread has 150mg of sodium and like 2 pieces of turkey lunch meat are about 500mg. Since I'm not smoking, I'm eating like fucking horse. Also, no more red meat. I've put on 15lbs in a week.

I'm up 15 lbs so far 🙄. I'm not sure I can do the sodium thing too, my body's already in shock😁

Since I'm not a rabbit, I've been doing chicken sandwiches...open face (one piece of bread). I filet a bunch of boneless skinless chicken breasts into 2 or 3 slices each, Load 'em up with salt free seasoning from Dash and grill off about 15 at a time. Throw one of those on a piece of bread with some mustard and it's pretty good. By my math, should be under 200mg/sodium per assembly. Now, if I could stay under 5 or 6 a day I'd be in better shape lol.

Congratulations. 5 weeks. How much easier?
I'm hoping it's a piece of cake by then.
I still think about it once or twice a day, but not to the point where I want to go smoke. More so, like a thought of, hey normally i would walk out and smoke while i was on the phone and now I'm chewing on this candy.

it doesn't bother me after eating anymore, but I'm still eating and snacking more then when I smoked. Less than I was the first 2 weeks, but still more then normal. Trying to cut back on jolly ranchers cause I tend to chew them and I can feel a difference in my teeth.

At 5 weeks I feel like I could cheat at a casino or go take a few hits from one of the "it's a boy" cigars I have. But I'm not cheating anyone but myself, and I've already made it past all the hard parts according to my searches.

Things have definitely changed over the last 10-20 years. Hell when I first moved to Havasu you could smoke in the bars Flying X etc.. Everyone smoked.. Now at events I look around and I'm the only guy.

Your thread is inspiring and I'd like to take another run at it.. per usual though I'm making the excuses, maybe after this, or maybe after that.
Those that don't know.. will never know.

I had a roommate when I was younger who was a drug addict that turned his life around. He told me once "You ever hear that saying where they say it's harder to quit smoking than heroin? Well let me tell you it's absolutely true."

RD
I was never addicted to smoking I could smoke and stop whenever. When I quit drinking that was rough. Everyone drinks. My best friend and cousin Luke died of a heroin over dose. He could quit smoking anytime but couldn’t kick the heroin. I get the saying but I don’t really care for it.of you’ve ever seen someone going through withdraws it’s awful. Cigs don’t make you sick that way

Day 23.
Feel like a Crack head some days.
Eating way to much still. Promised myself I'd start trying to loose the weight March 1st.

January 2023 I was weighing in at 228. Told myself I needed to drop weight to 200# before I tried to quit smoking.
Got down to 204 by May and stopped trying. Up to 222 today.

It’ll start to get better from here. Less crack head days for sure. Good work. Keep it up.

I was 228 in January as well. Still 228. Lol 😂😂.
I keep telling my wife 25 pounds is overrated. She doesn’t seeem to agree. I need to get down to about 200 myself.

i’m sitting in the hospital right now recovering from a heart attack I had on Saturday…had a stent put in yesterday to repair a blocked artery. Blood pressure was through the roof, etc…

I’m 43, smoke a pack a day for the last 25 years.

Haven’t had a smoke since I drove myself to the hospital Saturday night…craving was pretty brutal till after the stent procedure yesterday…now it’s almost not there.

You could try that lol.
My dad didn't make it to 43, pretty sure the smoking is what did it. He had an angioplasty and lived another couple of weeks. This was back in 1985, I think that was a fairly new procedure back then. Hell of a way to quit smoking.

Being overweight is better than spending your later years with COPD, tied to an oxygen concentrator, and dying before your grandkids graduate from high school.

You're doing great.

Glad to read your keeping after it.
I love success stories!
Really appreciate the support I got here.
Could something happen and I start again. I don't think so.
It's been way to rough to ever do this again 😕.

Even if they told me I had 6 months to live. I still don't think id smoke again. I dont want to be that addict, stuck in a hospital bed dieing for that smoke in my final days.

Just sayin. Depending when you quit. How long youve been a smoker. COPD might already be there It might not get worse. But it isn’t going to get any better if already in your lungs.

You’re going through. And have been through the worst of it in the month or so dealing with quitting.
You got this. And are strong. And have the right mindset. 🙏👍

I sure as hell hope i don't have COPD.
I've seen that. Terrible way to go.
My step mom basically lost her mind and died from lack of oxygen.

Other than orthopedic issues. I'm pretty healthy? Knock on wood.

I’ve smoked from 13 until 54. Quit 6-7 years ago. Have mild COPD. Nothing that stops me doin what I really want. But. It’s there. And hopefully as I have been told. It shouldn’t get worse. But no one ever knows.
I’m not here to preach as we all make our own choices.

You tough as basturds that quit. Any tips?
Im on day 5. Not even a drag.

Been there done that . I quit after 30 years , You have to ask yourself who's tougher you or the cigarette ? Who's in charge you or the cigarette ?

Hope all is still going well or “healthy”.

Went to a funeral last Wednesday for a friend. She was 51, beautiful wife, mother, sister, daughter, and aunt.
She died from cancer. Not related to lifestyle, breast cancer, but still left behind 4 children, 2 grandchildren, and husband.
Hard on them all but there was no regrets as to her lifestyle which when there is often leaves the family feeling confused and hurt from a destructive habit.

A couple more months and you’ll be posting about how much more energy you have and how better you feel out doing activities with your family.

Sad deal for sure. When I quit just over a year ago, I did it mainly because I felt tired after I smoked. I felt that way for years. Stupid habit. Feel much better

I've been 12 years smoke free after a 17 year habit. I tried using the vape method to quit but it tasted like such shit I just went cold turkey. Keep it up @endobear! It'll blow your mind how much taste you'll get back. Hell I couldn't even afford to smoke anymore. Over $10 a pack for parliaments!

My wife bought me a vape because she hated cigarettes years ago. I ended up doing both 🤦‍♂️
Vaping was really hard on my lungs. Way worse than cigarettes it seemed.

I’ve heard vaping is worse. Very short term . Popcorn lung happens quick as well. From what I hear.
Again. Smoked for 40 years. Didn’t matter what anybody said or did. Or doctors. Or …..
When you’re ready. You’ll just put out ‘em down.
And be an asshole for awhile while you withdraw.

Yeah. I tried the vape before I quit. Didn't like it.
I did have a zero nicotine vape I would hit
on the 1st couple weeks when I was really tweaking out.
I've easily saved $400 in the last month. Probably more.

For reference, if you decide to smoke a cigar after weeks of quitting while you're drinking......you may wake up in the middle having to puke........so I've heard 🤮

Today is 79 days without a single drag. Just got home last weekend from almost 3 weeks on the road camping, visiting (smoker) family and riding. It was tough. But my stubborn ass made it. Can't say I didn't want to give up, every day.
Lost some lbs. Back to my quit day weight. So that's good.

I still jones for a smoke a few times a day but I don't get crazy about it anymore.

You’ll forever have those cravings.

Stoked for you bud. Seeing this picture shows you have a lot to live for. You have a beautiful family. Keep at it and the cravings will get easier to curb.

Richard, he did great.
Survived clutch failure 2024 and being ass raped by sweet Marie with only saying I want a smoke once...out loud anyway😂

Somewhat correct when I quit it took about 7 yers for the craving to go away. One day I realized hey I haven't had the urge. Could not put an exact date but about 7 years.

Congratulations to all of you that have quit. It's tough. And thanks for all your encouragemen and support.

I really think you guys helped me get through this. Once I started this thread I felt (extra) accountable.

A non smoker will never understand how hard it really is to give up.

As related above, I chewed on sugar free Breath Savers incessantly for three years after I quit using snus. After the first six months or so, I realized how extreme the power tobacco had held over me was, and it made me more determined to quit for good.

The desire will follow you for a long time. But you're doing fantastic work, and the rewards will last a lifetime.

I haven't read the whole thread, but quitting is a pita. I used to smoke 2 packs a day and just quit foe my 40th birthday a month ago. The gum sux, I'm grinding my teeth at night. Horrible. But it's getting better. I still have the 3 Marlboro reds left in a pack inside of a alligator mouth to remind me. Congrats @endobear for keeping it up.
