I wish you the absolute best of luck. Your health is so much more important.

Robert is a bad smoker. He doesn’t drink- but his smoking is bad. He actually was able to hide smoking from me for 4 months when we started to date and that included a trip. And, I thought I could detect the smell pretty good, but he said he would just go the weekend without it. Once I found it, it seemed like he could smoke all day. If he’s outside, he can just chain smoke. Sometimes I grab his pack to get him back inside or I’ll choose not to enjoy our fire pit and suggest a movie because he will just smoke if we are outside. I would absolutely say our worst fights are about this. I told him I have gone through enough caretaking and stress in my life and I do not want to hear the news he has lung cancer. Nothing seems to work to get him to stop. I honestly want to finance something expensive like a nicer RV, just to make us financially tight enough that maybe he might stop. I know that’s not the way, but sometimes I think it could be. It’s a $500 a month habit. He’s suppose to quit by May- my birthday. I truly hope he does. He’s stubborn enough that when he wants to quit, I think he can do it cold turkey. I might suggest the breathsavers trick or toothpicks like some of you have said.

I hope everyone in here wanting to quit is successful. When I do my infusions- I see and have heard so many stories of the smokers and their regrets.

My wife smoked when I met her, not during the day but mainly in social settings, bar, hanging out with friends etc. I think it was more the habit than the "need" She started using a vape pen, with a little nicotine then started reducing gradually and would buy all kinds of flavors. I hated that stupid thing, but after about 9 months she finally didn't have the need for it all. She has stopped smoking now for about 10 years and can't stand to even be around the smell now.

I know it's not very manly, but whatever works.
I know of a couple people that did the vape thing and it worked for them as well

Except for tongue and throat cancer. Other than that they're great.

Zyn is pure nictotine. Pure nictotine isn’t any more cancer causing than marijuana is or broccoli or any other naturally growing product. It’s why you won’t find a warning that it causes cancer on any ZYN pack or log of cans.

It’s the concoction of chemicals they add to common tobacco products like cigarettes and Copenhagen that gives you cancer.

Honestly, it’s not a bad alternative to someone with a smoking habit. Zyn is going to be less cancer causing than living in downtown LA breathing truck fumes from the 405 fwy lol

I did a little homework. This paper was researched and written by six head and neck surgical oncologists. Below is an excerpt from the abstract:

Nicotine poses several health hazards. There is an increased risk of cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal disorders. There is decreased immune response and it also poses ill impacts on the reproductive health. It affects the cell proliferation, oxidative stress, apoptosis, DNA mutation by various mechanisms which leads to cancer. It also affects the tumor proliferation and metastasis and causes resistance to chemo and radio therapeutic agents.

I'd shower as soon as i got home from.work. Glove up for the night time smoke. Hand sanitizer.
Dude I work with is a heavy smoker. I swear he must roll around smoking in his car with the windows up.. A few months ago I really started noticing how bad he smelled.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Keep it coming.

My grandmother died from lung cancer, step mother died from Emphysema in her 50s and one of my best friends (my god daughters dad) died last March from throat cancer at 47. 😢 I do not want to go out like that. Or put my family and friends through that for something I did to myself.

It's going to be a struggle. My old man still smokes at 76. Watched his ability to get around decline in the last few years. He gets winded making a cocktail.

My sister smokes. She just beat breast cancer a few months ago. They won't do reconstruction surgery until she quits. She's gone through alot. I get why she hasn't quit. She's honestly what helped push me to give it up. I want to show her if I can do she can.😢

2 of my best friends smoke, father in law and 3 brother in laws smoke. This will be tough. I do have many friends and family that have quit.

Made it through day 6 yesterday. Did some tinkering in the garage. It was pretty brutal. Lots of walking in circles. Lighter in my hand.

Not that I was going to smoke. But I opened my drawer to find something and my last pack of smokes was gone. Daughter pitched them. Didn't bother me.
I think I've got this.

Mom died from lung cancer and pops is anchored on couch from COPD. I grew up in a house were dad took morning shit and had 3 smokes and mom drove me to school windows up puffing away. The endgame isn't pretty, 30-40's you think you always got time to quit but most stop the hard way, congrats on your battle with the darts!

I can remember riding in the car with the windows up and my dad and stepmother puffing away as a kid. Eyes burning. My sister and I hated it and bitched constantly.

I smoked for 55 years. I quit once for 5 years then started again. Finally at age 60, I quit for good. Went on the patch. Forget dropping down to weaker patches. I stayed on the strongest patch for 2 months. I dropped the association habits like a cig in the am, cig with alcohol, coffee, after dinner etc. It was easy once I got to the 2 month abstain. Nicotine by itself is far less poisonous than all the shit in the smoke.

I wish there was an easy way or saying to help. What I will say it's all about "HEART"! Just have to "STOP"! I guess Get into the gym as well, if you see improvement it usually helps you mentally. Also chew the heck out of gum, chew it like it's going out of style! MY.02 GOOD LUCK!

I will.
I think it will help to. Was going to start a thread before I quit but didn't want to be seen as a failure/weak if i couldn't do it.
Thanks for the support.
You'll be amazed eventually after successfully quitting and smoking isnt a huge part of your world ....................You'll reflect and be able to say "I used to smoke" Also I had a huge Sparklets water bottle I fed it daily for years and amassed a few grand $$$ money I would have spent on smokes ....

This here.
I wasn’t a hard core smoker but I did for about 15 years. Mid 20’s til around mid 30’s.
Last smoke was October 2001. I was kind of sick trying to get a hit without choking.
Thinking about how bad I had to have smelled crawling into bed with my wife at night kind of sealed the deal.
Not even one hit of tobacco since then.

Since my thyroidectomy in 2009 for cancer, I can't stand cigarette smells. Not even a little. It literally makes me nauseous, which is kinda weird.

been a rough 48hrs but I made it.
Managed to burn eyes working in my buddies shop while he was welding.
That chit hurt. Late night trip to the ER.
Off this afternoon for carpal tunnel surgery. Not looking forward to that.

Told my sister I had quit smoking.
She is on vacation in Cabo and sends me this pic back. She tossed the pack and is going to try to quit with me.

Years ago I was at my daughters house for a party with a her boyfriend and a bunch of friends, it was the night of the UFC fight 146, I was hanging with my daughters boyfriend and we drank (beer only) and smoked (cigarettes only..lol) and drank and smoked all night, the next day I woke up feeling like absolute dogshit (been a beer drinker my whole life) and the feeling I got, I knew was from cigarettes, that day, I put them down and haven't touched one since, back then I worked with a bunch of guys that were smokers and we would always take smoke breaks, that following week (and more, they would go out for a break and invite me to go, I always said "naww...I'm good", then it got to the point where they would say "come on, you know you want one", but I was the "stronger person" and said "yeah, you're right...I do want one, but I'm not gonna have one" and they stopped bothering me and I haven't had one since....Good luck my friend!! You got this!!

My mom also had this done besides lyphoma twice and lung cancer, i flew out to Idaho to be there for her after surgery, pretty much got to see that pic when doctor pulled bandage to look at it. Few days later leaving hospital she had brought in a few smokes with her and was lighting up as we barley made it out of hospital entrance. I looked her and said fck mom, her response what its going to do kill me?

I started the vape about a month ago. I've noticed I now have a better sense of taste and smell. Started with 30mg's of nicotine and I'm now on 3mg. I'll quit all together soon.
Funny.

I got home from the hospital Tuesday night....got in the truck the next morning to go pick up parts...couldn't hardly stand that stank. Parked it with with the windows down for a few days and drove the other truck. Today is 6 days without a smoke....the dogs nose ain't got shit on me at this point. lol

All it takes is willpower or doctors orders after a significant event.

I actually fired an employee for smoking. It was company policy smoking wasn't allowed in my vehicles. In 2007, I hired a project manager, bought him a new F150, and about four months later I was hosting employees at a big infield blowout at TMS during the IndyCar race weekend.

The guy's truck was blocking someone in, and I got the keys from his girlfriend to move it. I was one pissed off MF'er when I got in. A new truck, and both of them had been smoking in it since day one.

I fired him Monday morning. In spite of efforts to clean the truck, when I sold it three years later in could still smell the fucking smoke.

I quit 5 months ago after 30 years of a pack and a half a day. Cold Turkey, quit fucking around, don’t be a little bitch.. tough for the first couple weeks, after that it gets easier, trust me.

If I can do it, anyone can. Go ahead and plan on adding a few extra pounds, but I think the trade off is worth it.

I can't relate to smoking. Luckily I have never smoked. But dam energy drinks/caffeine had me for a long time. I would only have one day and most of the time not finish it. I hate coffee.

If I didn't have a energy drink I'd start getting a headache around 9am or so. Back of the head behind the eyes style and it sucked. I would stop sometimes but it would be days with the headache.

Finally last year I stopped cold turkey it took about a week or 2 for no more headaches. So now I can just wake up and go, no more bullshit.

Hand definitely hurts a little. Had the other hand done a couple years ago so I kinda new what to expect. Had my trigger finger fixed 33 days ago.
Used to cowboy it through with a few extra smokes to keep my mind off the discomfort. Last couple days have been tough 😪.

Appreciate the encouragement. I haven't cheated yet. Cold turkey. No nicotine gum, patches or e cigarettes.
The weight gain is gonna suck. I'm always eating now. Not getting any exercise. I'm sure ill get that back under control in a couple weeks.

Keep it up. Today's almost over.

I'm left handed. Between my little and ring chewed up by the dog and numb, the middle frozen by trigger finger, and thumb screwed up by arthritis, I'm down to one good one.

I can still pick my nose but that's about it. Fortunately my Mom taught me to wipe right handed.

. I'm always eating now.
That's why I suggested the heart attack method....what with the high cholesteral and blood pressure, the types of food on the "cardiac diet" list are barely edible....so you won't gain any weight lol.

Back to serious. What's helped me out is to replace the cig in my hand with a pen or sharpie.....yet somehow I still manage to lose 5 sharpies a day. Carry it in my hand or in my teeth....just make believe it's a cig, but it doesn't smoke. Takes care of the habit part of things.

Not a fan of "Meds" but low dose Ativan Helped me in the first couple weeks , a good MD should recognize the obvious anxiety and use would be warranted I would think

No Nicotine. Cold turkey. Been trying to cut back in preparation. Failed 50%.
Hiding at home as much as possible. For everyones safety. Pretending I'm in prison..
It's almost impossible to quit when others in the same house smoke.

Need to distance yourself from the places you enjoyed smoking for a while, to help with the cravings. Tell everyone around, you stopped, and that no matter what….don’t give you a cigarette, and it's ok to mock you, as you beg for one. You’ll get tired of that shit fast. 😉

It took about 5 years before I stopped looking at the cigarette rack behind the counter. 😉

Some old Ex/Smokers here.
Let's here some advise.
I've been a pack a day 🐫 or Marlboro 100 smoker for 34 years. Seriously quit 1 time at 29 for a year. A couple attempts in my early 40s that I didnt take seriously.
You tough as basturds that quit. Any tips?
Im on day 5. Not even a drag.
I'm ready to smoke.
I just ran across this product that was supported by all 6 investors on shark tank.
It's called ActivGenix CBD gummy. It was invented by the Khalife sisters after their mother died of lung cancer from Smoking. They supposedly are extremely effective......surprising right? Haha
They are a reuptake inhibitor (RI) and supposedly clear out the lungs and help correct copd too. Kinda miracle med. Type product apparently. Should be worth a few minutes of your time to sesrch up..

Marlboro Reds for 30 plus years for me. Been well over 10 years since I quite. Honestly, I’d go to Costco and buy their double box of 4mg nicotine gum. Chew the fuck out of them. It will satisfy you. Once you’re dialed in, start reducing the number of pieces you chew. When you’re ready, switch to the 2mg pieces and continue with the reduction. Even if you can’t quiet the gum, chewing it in lieu of the cigs is a hell of an improvement.

Wife quit smoking 15 years ago. Im good there.
I spend a ton of time tinkering in the garage and around the property. That's really been tough. I often find myself wandering in circles with a lighter in my hand. Also smoked alot at work and traveling to and from. Been getting some surgeries taken care of over the last month so I'm not really able to work or tinker in the shop.

Was told I was pre diabetic in August. It kinda helped push me to get healthier. Was a huge fountain drink guy. Would go weeks without drinking any water. A1C is back down now that I've cut the Dr Pepper out...
Once my hand feels a little better I'll start working out when I'm dying for a smoke.
Went to the races yesterday and did a bunch of walking. Heading out with my daughter in a few to walk the mutz a couple miles.

Getting healthy is definitely my end goal.

Buddy and his wife are coming over tonight.
He comes over about once a week for garage beers and smokes. He's been cutting back for months. But vapes like it's his job. I have zero interest in the e cig crap so I should be good. Other than the drinking. Haven't really had much booze since I quit. 😕

Doing pretty good. I definitely have my moments when I want to strangle fools though. Usually at the end of the day.
Dealing with surgery pain is sucking without my smokes. I just keep telling myself I've made it this long. Don't fuck it up. Can't say I quit if I cheat. Wife is super supportive. Promises more sexy time if I stay strong. 😏
Today's day 11.
