So rocky from Raptor boats came out earlier this week so I could go drive the boat and let him know what I thought etc.. (More on that later). And he brought his friend Dave with him.

Dave tells me he has a present for me and hooks this little box up to my TV and asks me for the wifi password.. Then he asks me "what do you want to watch? You can watch anything."

So I'm thinking WTF? Sure as shit though..

Want to watch Dexter? Boom there it is.. Sons of anarchy? Yep. Old movies? Yep. How about movies that are still in the theatre? Stacy is queuing up that new movie "boyhood" as I'm typing this..

NFL, NBA, NHL... All the games real time.. Normal TV? 30 channels.

Remember when I said you can watch anything? From porn to Disneys Frozen.. It is on there.

So he goes on to tell me.. "Ya know how people pay per view fights etc?" All pay per views for free in real time..

This thing is bad ass. It is a straight up gangster cable box. Lol. Not that I much give a shit about it but I did ask him how illegal is this thing? He laughed, it is his company and they are perfectly legal because they are "streaming" from offshore servers.

I told him to get me a promo code for Rdp members.. They are 250.00 bucks for the box with the normal remote (gay). 30.00 bucks extra for the real deal remote I pictured above. (You need the remote with the mouse pad etc, makes browsing Internet etc 100 x easier). Oh yeah.. You can browse the Internet as well!

I will let ya know when he gets me the promo code. I don't think it is going to be a big discount, but it will be something.

If you want to see his website it is www.myfreecabletv.com.

I have been catching up on all my tv shows.. Lol. Just finished SOA, and Walking Dead. Next up is dexter. :)

How is the picture quality? Is there a delay?

Dave told me that with anything like this sometimes there's inconveniences.. He said sometimes it will buffer on Friday nights from 8pm till midnight..

It hasn't done it to me yet. Picture is 1080. You can stream either SD or HD when you select the server you want to stream from.

Like I said there is a few things.. It is a little techy to use at first (but I figured it out.. So if I can do it anyone can). If the movie in the theatre just came out (like this week) then it will have a "CAM" next to it.. Those are "ok" if you give it a week, the "cam" files switch to HD and then they are DVD quality.

After we are done with this movie I will video it with my I phone and show ya guys how it works..

Sounds cool. Is it pretty user friendly? Dvr feature?
I ditched cable tv a couple years ago. I only have Apple Tv and Netflix. It would be nice to get a ball game every once in a while.

Oh btw, how was the ride in the Raptor?

Wait until the promo code comes out.. I'm not sure if the discount, but it should be up mon/Tuesday.

I think you just found out what it's like to be lobbied like a politician... only it came from a boat builder :D

Those are pretty cool though. I use to have something similar only it was slightly illegal lol.

Was hell keeping up with the latest gadget to protect it from getting zapped on big pay per view nights.

I'll have to check this one out.

I think Dave knew that if I had one and liked it I would be putting up this thread.. I have been using it for a week now, and I'm sold on it. I am watching a movie right now that Stacy asked me to take her to in the theatre a week ago (it is still in theaters). And I'm watching it in 1080. :). I don't care if there is some Chinese subtitles on the bottom. Lol. (Note in a couple days those will be gone or I could have tried another server)

Looks cool, however streaming content from offshore servers back into US is illegal. Just like you can't stream US shows overseas.

They are openly selling these things. Dave swears it is not illegal. That is t to say in a few years it won't be but it currently is legal.

What about sports? That's the only reason I have DirecTv now.

I pay $100+ month now. I'm assuming you have to have one for each tv in the house? It would still pay for itself in my house pretty quickly.

If live he is breaking a few laws. If being rebroadcast from internet servers (even if overseas) he is approaching on rebroadcast rights from the networks. All depends on who is broadcasting the content and the agreement they have with the networks. Most networks don't allow rebroadcasts from overseas servers back into the US. Same thing applies, can't stream US network content into foreign countries. HOWEVER, most networks, cable companies, etc have bigger issues then to deal with this, but if it gets enough attention they will be asking him a few questions.

But then again what do I know, only work for DirecTV and have to audit transmission and rebroadcast activity based on network contracts at least once a year.

Just got clarification from a peer. What the device is doing is 100% LEGAL. The companies that are allowing the content to be picked up are the ones in violation.

Makes sense, somebody has to pay for the rights and services to watch tv... Nothing is free in this world.

I don't think you can watch normal tv on one of those? Or the pay per view stuff?

You can once the apple tv 1 or 2 series has been jailbroke. We have talked about it here before also. You can also go on Craigslist and find these devices for sale if you search jailbroke apple tv

I am not in the biz of selling these things so that question is better suited to Dave.. Lol. (Although i will admit i am considering it) But I know this thing does more then the Apple TV deals. When he was going over it with me he had a bunch of features he rattled off that were unique to this one. I just watch tv, movies, and surf the Internet.. So for the price it makes sense to me.

The optimist in me wants one.

The pessimist in me says it's only a matter if time until this gets shut down.

But the bootleggers are always one step ahead...just wondering if this hardware can be upgraded to stay ahead of the game.

I was thinking the same thing, I looked at the web site and the is an update section. I have a lot of questions and to go to the question section of the web page you need to be a member.

My number one question is I want this on 4 TV's in my house, Do i need 4 Boxes? or can I piggyback and use 2 boxes showing the same content? Etc.????

Edit: RD this is not aimed at you. Just getting some of my questions out there. I'm not going to bother anyone on a vacation weekend.

I agree this stuff isn't new. This should be able to be done from any computer. The real trick is to get an updated list of the severs that are hosting the content, correct?

The XMBC deal is what you need. I don't know much about it all exactly. I just know there are a ton of devices that you can get the channel on

Was it established that this device is also a DVR, or is it real time only ?

I'm in a rather remote area so my download speeds suffer a bit, anybody know what a minimum might be to receive HD real time ? --- I've never tried streaming video for this reason.

No cable either, so DTV is my only source.

So what does the subscription cost?

Dave said he has been selling these things for a year and a half.. So I dunno. He told me this thing would work indefinitely.

He does that because other guys that sell the same boxes were using his website for Q&A. I think it's free to become a member on his deal, but honestly I haven't had any questions yet so I haven't looked at the site.

You click the show, and it automatically brings up all the servers.. I'm not sure how you could do it from a computer, but I'm sure there is a way.

Your box looks different than the one on his web site, are there different levels of boxes?

I think that's what his web guy was working on when he went AWOL.. LOL These are the new boxes he is selling.

I would like to see a second and 3rd RDP review

I have a video I just made with my I phone.. It's uploading to youtube right now so you can see how it works.

In the same boat. Don't think Id be fast enough to have quality.

I'm also in Canada and get messages on a lot of video's that it can't be viewed here. Currently have Direct TV and subscribe to every channel except the porn, so about $160 per month. Also do pay per views a lot, boxing and UFC. New movies I like seeing them on the big screen, getting the whole movie theater experience big sound, popcorn and my theater serves beer. So not worth it for new release movies for me. I put a lot of YouTube onto my TV now, several old shows on there I like. So it does that fine with my connection so maybe this will work.

There is a rub.. It requires pretty fast Internet. At least 15mbps. Not sure it would work on shared wifi.

You can run hdmi splitters and get the same content on multiple tv's. to watch different shows though you would need one for each room.

I'm pretty sure it's just streaming.. So you can watch events real time, but I don't think you can record them. It has USB ports on it though so I'm sure some techy could make it stream right to a hard drive somehow.. That's out of my paygrade though.

Like I said I just wanted to watch all my shows.. Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, SOA, Homeland, Sopranos etc.. and watch movies. Stacy likes it because all the kids movies (Frozen, the new planes movie etc...) are all on there, plus we found all the stuff we have been buying like Baby Einsteins, and other educational videos as well.

So far I haven't found anything that I have wanted to watch that isn't on there. Not is not too say it's as easy as just point and click, if it's old or bizarre you might have to do some searching. There has been occasions where I had to leave one app, and goto another to find an odd old movie or something, but it hasn't let me down yet. In a minute or two, I had whatever I wanted to watch playing on it. To not have a huge cable bill, or stacks of DVD's around.. I think this thing is flippin bad ass. LOL

That video is uploading to youtube right now. It's 7 minutes long so it's going to take an hour to upload and then however long it takes to process it.

I was thinking it would be cool for peoples river houses, so you wouldn't have to pay for cable and DVR's etc.. anymore. Hell for our uses I would pick this over cable anyways.. LOL

Going to wait until Tuesday to see if this will work in Canada. Even if it doesn't, have a way to make it work, sort of like how Direct TV thinks I'm at my U.S cottage. :D

My Father and brother come over for every pay per view boxing and or UFC event. So this will pay for itself in a couple months.

It works through the Internet.. So long as you have the download speeds to sustain streaming video it will work anywhere in the world.
