Well I get it; I just don't get why so many people drive three, four, five and more hours to launch their boat and take it directly to the Channel and suck in exhaust fumes and hang in urine water all day.

My wife and I were in Havasu every few weekends when we lived in Vegas. Our normal day was we would launch and go to a lot of different spots, meet friends, swim, park at various beaches and the Channel was always our last stop to chill out for a bit before we headed in.

Is it me or is the trend lately to just launch and head directly to the Channel and sit there all day? That doesn't make any sense to me at all. Why even launch your boat? Just bring cooler and some chairs and grab a spot. I don't hate the Channel, quite the opposite; I think it is super cool. I just think there is more to boating than sitting there all day.

Maybe I'm missing something? Is the hanging out there more due to the Sandbar and other places being shut down on big weekends / and or completely covered with reeds etc?

When you spent your gas money on beer, you go to the channel.

And yes, they have purposely pushed the party people to the channel so it can be easily enforced and monitored.

Incidentally, the channel is great during the week.

Honestly I don't really get it either.. LOL But I love to cruise it while I'm on my way somewhere and watch all the crazies for a few minutes! :D

In a bit of irony, one of my groups of friends (ALL BOAT OWNERS) are renting 3 or 4 of those Cabana boats for memorial day next year.. I told them I'd do it, but honestly I can't wrap my head around why we are doing it.

Tend to agree, also the cabana boat rental is a nice change of pace when you are the DD and driving your stuff around all weekend

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a Cabana Boat rental? I'm sure I have some clue but not 100% sure. Are they actually driveable or does the company tow them to the channel and set it up for you?

We used to do it back in the day when I was a kid, but its a COMPLETELY different ballgame now. Almost every single boat out there this weekend had their speakers blasting the crappiest music at full volume with maximum distortion. Aside from the few boobs here and there I dont understand the appeal of it. We typically stay at the parker dam side of havasu at the BLM camp sites away from the crazy but we will roll through the channel to check it out.

My sister in law did the cabana this year and loved it. They didn't even bring the boat just showed up each day, got hammered and went back to the hotel. I would rather be cruising...

They're towed and staked in place for you. Theres a couch thats covered in herpes, some chairs, ice chest, a stereo, and some type of carpet, towel, or fake grass.

If you just want to go to the channel and nowhere else, and not have any responsibility or worry, that seems like a good idea. Just bring your beer and some disinfecting wipes.

Haha, it's exactly what I thought it was; I just can't believe it! Too funny. Can you request a gonorrhea stripper pole in place of the herpes couch?

I should one up this guy and just buy a bunch of EZ-Ups, throw down an old couch and cooler and charge 350 a day. I don't know the cabana pricing but has to be more than that!

EDIT, it's only about 300 a day for the cabana. Not as bad as I thought. I am sure big weekends are way more.

I think it's 700 a day on holiday weekend.

We usually go on Saturday morning and people watch for a few hours until we get hungry. It is like the Vegas strip on water. It is pretty entertaining. We cruise the lake afterwards. Not more than a couple hours. Desert storm was the exception. It was busy and fun looking at all the boats. Probably the first time we stayed at the channel all morning till late afternoon.

Also, when you bring friends or family, they always want to go there. Not going to say no to saving on gas money if that makes them happy...

The family enjoys the channel. Usually do one day up or down river. Then the next day we will do channel all day. Also depend on weather. If it’s spotty we will just do the channel. For me it’s easy. Cheap on fuel due to I don’t fill up that day. Don’t really have to worry about the boat due to it’s parked. We don’t do holiday weekends. And we stay at the landing so we get like 5 minutes of boating crossing the lake.

One trip thru the channel and it takes a pressure washer to get the layer of piss, puke, sun tan lotion, DNA and whatever else is purged from the human body off of your boat. One time I was wiping down my boat and it reeked of vomit, shit you not.

I dont get why people ride bikes to work, everyone is different. Thats why:cool:

Let me give you a bunch of reasons why people ride to work; it's healthy, good for the attitude, cutting cars from the road/less traffic (helps everyone), better for the environment, cheaper than driving, clears the mind and much more. Most can't give much or any reason why they would launch their boat to drive half a mile and sit in the channel all day. I just didn't understand the allure and thought maybe their was some insight to why more and more people don't cruise anywhere at all but just get to the Channel at the break of dawn. Seems most on this site feel the same way about the Channel as I do.

I love living in a free American and you are right, everyone is different. If we didn't discuss why things are the way they are, this site wouldn't exist. Just making conversation. I just brought it up because it seems like the sitting there all day happens more than it ever used to. Again, I think the Channel is cool just not for all day.

Are you saying these people should bike the the channel? ;)

These channel goers are cutting boat traffic from the river, Using less gas, causing less air pollution, saving money, are less stressed, get food delivery, the list goes on!!

I say build another tier and stack'em 2 high.

Reasons to sit in chanel
Saves gas
Ice & pizza can be delivered
Wont spill my cocktail from a bumpy ride
TONS of 3/4 naked women
Wont spill my cocktail from a bumpy ride ( yes i repeated. Its important!)
Tons of hot chicks
Easier to pur a drink while boat is beached

You ride a bike to save gas. I sit in chanel to save gas.

Once again. The point:
To each his own

That's all I was looking for. Again, to each their own. I liked sitting in the channel, just not all day as the exhaust was what really got to me and my wife. I guess that could be a benefit for some as it is a free high! :D

We used to stay in the channel a lot. Before we moved here it was a destination from Cattail cove. Now we are there for pickup and drop off of friends, occasionally we will linger but not often.

In my Havasu days on saturdays, the ones who didn't get completely trashed the night before would get up early and go skiing/wake boarding in the morning before the water got screwed up. Then about 11 we'd go pick up the hung over ones at the free launch by the dam followed by a run up to copper where we would anchor for a couple hours, eat sandwiches and jump off the rock. After a couple hours we would pull up anchor and cruise to the channel and hang out there for a couple hours. Then we would make the nice long boat cruise back to parker dam around 5. Always worked out great.

Sundays we would launch on The Strip in the morning and hang by our cabanas followed by cruising down to Roadrunner for lunch. Then after lunch we would cruise back up river, pull the boat and skis out of the water, clean them up and go home.

If we were there on a Friday or monday, it was a crap shoot. Always a good time though

This

I love the channel. But I’m selective where I will park. No kids throwing shit, no wakeboard boats, no cigs, no face tattoos.
Other than that I can hang all day

I can't believe everyone is missing one of the major points of getting up early and driving the boat a short distance just to park all day..........to get a good spot to shoot the passing boats with super soakers.....duh. :D

It’s fun to see the shit show. Like back on the day when you’d pull up at the street races or comp hill in glamis. I haven’t been there in 8 years but was always a good time to watch.

But I didn’t park there for the whole weekend.

It is not just Havasu....It is people who consider a day of boating to be they drove it out a few miles, tied up in a raft with a bunch of people to socialize with.

This has been going on in quite a few places around here since the 1980's.

ill take it further.
why would you leave every day chaos at home with a gazillion cars and assholes . drive 5hrs to be with a gazillion , boats, assholes ?
oh I'm sure there are lots of reasons. not one, would be good enough for me to endure that shit show.

why normal weekends and holiday weekends . we never go.
no thanks, I see a shit show every day. don't need to see it when I'm boating.

I gotta say, I can take the channel in doses, but I'm really not the type to hang at that place all freakin day.. I'm considering opting out of my Cabana boat already.. I can just see myself going crazy by 2pm and wanting to leave. (and I sleep in on the weekends)

Use to go to Havasu every 2 weeks in the summer back around 1999-2001. Good friend owned the boat. I paid for the gas.

In the morning we would wake board/Ski/Tube. Then head to copper canyon for an hour or so and then head to Topoc for lunch. After lunch we would go to the sandbar for a few hours. Then we would hit the channel for an hour or so. Go back to condo and grill, drink. Repeat the next day.

Toward the end of our Havasu days we would head out in the morning and ski/wake board. Then a cove and spend the rest of the day there. To me it was boring and I could do that in Mission Bay which was 1/2 hr from my house. I think our last trip there was Memorial 2002. Paid to much for condo and everything else. When to cove everyday and sat. Went home and said no more.

If you like it great, just not for me.

I paid $550 for the 4th of July and had him park it on the end of the channel for perfect fireworks viewing. It was nice being able to drink and not worry about driving the boat

I don't get it either. I may cruise thru to check out the crowd, but would rather go to a cove with a nice beach where my kids can play in cleaner water.

Now that Sandbar Burger is closed, no need to go. Even then, it was early on Sunday or Monday then off to a cove.
