Mine was a Formula 400SS with 525's
it handled any kind of water that i wanted to be out in.
could sleep on it for a weekend
full bath
microwave. fridge etc.
still had ok speed.
looked good
trailerable
very well built

In practice putting it on a trailer was a pain in the ass. and took so long that i quit doing it.
went and bought another Cigarette.

Having both the Cig and Formula was the hot ticket :)

There just isn’t the perfect all around boat. I love big Vs with closed bows for ocean and sleeping on at Powell but they are a pain to get on and off of in Havasu Parker. Deck boats are great but your not taking one to Catalina and your really exposed in bad weather, no cabin. Neither of these are good for wakeboarding or other water sports. My wakeboard boat is super roomy but slow as hell and zero fun to drive. Plus I get stuck pulling people on wakeboards for hours on end and that gets old. Center console seems to be a pretty good way to go. All depends on what you like to do.

One boat isnt the answer.......two, one slow (toon) one fast (Daytona) is. Its the only route that works for us. Someday I will consolidate into one boat and if so it will be a twin engine toon.

My paid for 23’ Cobra plays the role of motorized floating stereo, motorized floating cooler, motorized floating EZ UP and people mover just fine.

Wife just asked yesterday if we had the garage space would I buy a Howard deck boat.

I took this as a hint that she would be fine getting a Havasu house with a bigger garage and a bigger boat.

I politely declined :)

Yeah that is a hard question to answer. They’re gives and takes to each. I liked the 23 Cobra I had. It looked great, had a small cabin to get out of the sun, and would run decent speeds with good gas mileage.

I like my 22 deck because I can just walk on and off without crawling though a small mid cabin, the grandparents can more easily use it, and the ride is much better. BUT, it’s also double the price. The deck pulls tubes pretty well too. I would say for my purposes the deck to me is a great all around boat but the one draw back is no cabin to escape the sun. You get baked mid summer.

To me there isn't a single best boat. They are all tradeoffs of some sort. To me, a single engine V bottom between 24-29 feet is a good all around boat. Not too big where towing and parking is a pain, big enough to handle rougher water and even the occasional ocean run, but not too big for skiing/etc.

To narrow it down, I would personally look at a Hallett 240/270 or a 25/29 Shockwave if I was shopping for one all around boat

Essex 21-24 foot range. Well built, functional layout and handles well.
That's my vote if we're talking havasu or mohave. Get a big block and do 65-70 all day for decades, rides great, fun to drive, can sit 10 people and gear no problem if you need it. Bravo 1 faster but my bravo 3 did 65 GPS no prob and could tow people with the same prop.

For me and the family, the perfect all around boat would be a deck boat in the 28ft range. No big power, but still decent to hit choppy stuff in the lake, and run up river. The XFlights look cool, and have space for a head and a bed, maybe something like that.

For me alone, I'd be happy with new interior and adding a huffer on my 30 year old jet. Does fine for me, seats enough being an open bow, room for drinks and snacks.

Until my son went deep into wakeboarding in his mid teens our Hallett 210 was awesome. We could do all the water sports except surfing, cruise with a bunch of people, and run upper sixties. It looked great, rode great, and held it's value very well.

So, been giving it some more thought, and I have some ideas...but need lots of money and a builder with balls.

And no, it doesn't involve stripper poles...though they could be an option.

Personally I think the Howard VTX is the closest you can get to a boat that does it all and this is coming from a Nordic guy. It's fast, you can wakeboard, plenty of room for all and you can walk off the front. Not to many boat's that check all of those boxes.

You know, all around.

Hahaha pretty much. I think a 270T Hallett is a great all around lake boat, but I wouldn't plan on boating SF Bay or Catalina frequently.

That 2750 Lavey with outboards would be a different story though for ocean use. Lake use would suck without a big swim step.

I’d have to go with a 290 Hallett WTOB with a 600 SCI. Easy access front and back, big enough for big water on mead and Mohave, can go to Catalina on a nice day, is decently quick and can still pull tube duty. For myself, I’ve got the fast boat and looking at getting a Super Air Nautique G25 or something some day for kids and their water sports in addition to the Hallett.

I would love a Lavey 2750 setup to run in the ocean and lakes, aluminum trailer, etc. Can you fit twin small block LSA's in a Lavey 2750?

If it's not a flat bottom, you're a pansy! Had to toss that out there for @Sharp Shooter

I'm thinking 27-32ish center console with twin wackers. Seating, stereo, small cabin, ski-able, and comfy in rough water.

But if you don't plan on Parker, a Nortech 420 Monte Carlo is tough to beat.

So Boat #7 (2003) was my first "All Around" Tub. It was pretty close! ;) This one and Likely our last, (A 2017) -- This was my Idea of an All Around Boat.

I wanted something that I could run in Lakes, Rivers, (Skinny water to Class 5 Rapids), and Ocean. Had to operate Year round and in most conditions others couldn't! 😀 Porta-a-pot with shield, and sleep two.:)

Custom Built 22ft Tub, 6ft bottom, 96" Beam, HardTop.
LS Powered/ with Hamilton 212 Pump, (In Retro - Should have got the LSA & maybe 24-26ft'r)
Closed System, twin 1500gph Bilge pumps, heater, windshield wipers, Anchor system, swim step (W/built-in live well) & ladder, electric and manual down riggers, remote control station for Kicker, TR-1 Gold Auto-Pilot, Wash-Down Kit, and Trim Tabs. More stuff -- HardTop Rails, Rocket Launcher, remote Spotlight, High Deck W/ Rail & seats, and a one-off airbrushed Hatch! ;)

So you wussed out, and didn't spring for the turret or night vision options?

The rocket launcher though, that's my kind of fishing!

X2, only box it doesn't check is the one where I can buy it and still send my kids to school

There’s no perfect all around boat. You must first state the location you’ll be boating in before even attempting to answer the question. imo

I’ve probably owned 20+ boats so far, and currently have 4 different boats. But the best all-around boat I’ve had(and still do) is my 23 Donzi deck boat. It does everything.

Very similar to my 26 Bayliner Rendezvous, I wish I had a 250 on it. I think it's the perfect boat for me.
