I was supposed to be in Asheville NC for the next week for a Mercedes rally but it was cancelled in the 11th hour yesterday. Sucks because that’s a very big event for us. Nothing you can do about the weather. I definitely feel for all the people in the areas affected.

Prayes to all that are in these areas. My house got hit by a tornado in 2003. I’m still pissed at how much damage my insurance company stiffed me with. I sure hope these people have insurance to help cover the damage. But we all know the insurance companies will do everything they cannot to pay out.

The messages of desperation for the people of NC specifically are heartbreaking. Seems their NG and the TN NG were sent to the middle east as this hurricane was approaching. It doesn't seem like much is being done for the "mountain people" except by volunteers basically. I know the power companies are trying to do their job but it way way worse than that. Really awesome country thru there and it seems like total devastation with towns completely wiped away. Horrible situation

There is a second storm developing that is almost identical to this one.

Do you own a chainsaw? I’ve thought about owning one just to clear roads blocked by trees to make it easier for utility crews to just show up. I’ve found if you help them, they seem more willing to help back.

However I’m not a logger, I’d probably fuck myself up getting whacked by what I just tried to cut up.

I believe there are 1-2 additional possibilities as well as that one.

Here ya go. This guy has been on the money on all these storms it seems. He is paying close attention to all of this weather stuff

Definitely go clear out as much as possible. Have to be as proactive as one can be in a situation like that.

Would you go door to door?
It’s not hard to find those that need help…….

The grifters come out of the woodwork after every storm. Many storm chasers are scammers looking to take advantage of those that are down on their luck. These same people also take up a lot of the hotel rooms, that should be reserved for those that have lost their homes. Instead, every hotel is filled with out of state pickup trucks.

A typical scam is too charge by the branch. Then the tree is cut into thousands of pieces.

But you could just knock on a door and say I’ll clear the property for say $1,000? Just didn’t know if these issues are handled by the state, FEMA etc or if the homeowners are footing the bill.

I know that seems like an easy simple question, but it is actually very complicated.

For the poor homeowner. He needs to ask himself a few questions?

How long am I willing to wait for the state to clear the debri?

What are my needs……. RIGHT NOW. Roof leaking, auto trapped by debris, etc

Can I get out of neighborhood? (My wife and I know what it’s like to have so many trees down, that we were trapped from leaving)

The big one…….. When will the power be restored?

FWIW……… Here a few things that you cannot purchase after a hurricane. Why? Because they are sold out!

Tarps
Chain Saws
Hand Saws
Generators
bottled water

Lots of other stuff too.

However, there will always be someone advertising these needed items for triple or quadruple their value. These type of entrepreneurs come out of the woodwork. Some are the same people that purchased all the stock, the stores had, before the storm. Just in case you are wondering, we now have anti gauging laws against this, with a hotline. I doubt that stops it!

That can get a bit complicated with licensing and other red-tape requirements and oversight when the Feds declare an area wide disaster. I just recall in '07 following our wildfires, when what would normally be a slap on the hand for contracting without a license, became a federal offense and were prosecuted with vigor.

Go to a Stihl dealer and by a saw, it it isn't rocket science to run one, and should only cost you 300.00 or less for a home owner grade gas powered saw.

Yeah but I’m in SoCal. We simply don’t get the regular weather where I’d want to have it on hand. I’d buy it and it would sit in a box for years.

Though I do agree it would be good to buy a gas saw now while I still can. No way an electric chainsaw will be worth a damn.

Not going to be received well, but worth asking. The southern states are prone to these types of weather disasters, been happening for thousands of years. If this is known, why be surprised by hurricanes happening and need for federal funding assistance? Anyone surprised by the damage from scientifically documented data on this is occurring in the states impacted by this hurricane?

Every hurricane season………. I think about moving. Lol

FWIW………. A pawn shop is an excellent place to buy a chainsaw. Once, In Phoenix, I purchased a decent gas chain saw at a pawn shop for $35. I still own it.

I guess this is probably a pretty dismal question, but would anybody rather have an earthquake or a hurricane?
