Hull Recomendations for Comp Jet

I'm looking for a boat to race in Comp Jet. I raced a '77 Rogers bubble deck in the past and I would like to get another one like it. I also understand that other boat builders splashed the Rogers bottom and I would like to know what other boats have this bottom.

Also, there are other hulls besides Rogers that perform well in circle racing. What is the hot Comp Jet boat these days?

Does anyone know where I could find a good racing project boat?

Thanks
MrE

I think the Eliminator Liberties were pretty good back in the day.. I've always loved the way they look.

I dont know the details of the class your looking at but another option might be the Eliminator Sprint,or the CP or one the clones.
If class rules dont get in the way,the 19 Daytona is a great jet hull.:thumbsup

So after going to APBA rules, its any hull max length 24ft including pump and extentions. So its wide open for ya. Did you check out the Rouse build here in the jet section? Would make a great race boat.

The fastest Comp. Jet out there right now is Harold Bruces 18' Rogers Bonneville. Just shy of a hundred.
We just ran 91 mph w/ our 19' Bonneville TR at the Thanksgiving race.
I have another 19' TR bare hull up for sale. There is someone coming to look at it over the weekend of Jan 8th. It seams to be an ex K/J boat. Just don't have time for it.
Were building a 18' Rogers Super Cyclone (flat deck)right now. It will be a full on race boat.

Roger sold Harry (Advantage) one of his 18 Bonneville molds.
Eariler this year Bob said they would pop a bare hull out for around 6 grand.

I have seen a couple of early '70's flat deck Rogers that have a deep looking front keel. I think they were refered to as the 'Cyclone'. This hull does not look like a good choice for Comp Jet. How is this hull different from a 'Super Cyclone'?

How much are you asking for the ex K/J Rogers hull? I may be interested in it if your buyer doesn't take it.

You're right about the Cyclone w/ the deep entry. We have one for a future restro. It's an old Rogers race boat called the Rootin Tootin Raspberry.
The Super Cyclones came out in 72 I believe. They have the same bottom as the later Bonnevilles. The yellow boat in the foreground is a Super Cyclone, which belongs to Terry Valore w/ his son Nick driving.
The white and blue is an 18' Bonneville which belongs to Harold Bruce and his son JR.
And then there's us with our 19.

6 k is a killer deal he better check his glass and resin prices
This is what he told my nephew back in the spring. Who knows it might have been the bait to get us in the door. He said the way things were, he just needed to keep the guys working. Not making stuff up, just repeating what I was told.

A Roger's or Advantage are the easy hulls to set up and race comp jet circles. Harold at R&D is the guy to see on one of those. The Rogers are great until the class gets big and competitive at speed. They were great in the old days until everyone started running 100 m.p.h. plus straight away speeds. As long as the class stays like it is, and kind of a gentlemans run what you brung class, a Rogers or Advantage would be the best boat to own. Liberty's are great boats for the lower horsepower classes like ski jet and mod jet used to be, they can run real fast with limited horsepower, but seem to get scary with comp jet horsepower. Most were crashed, in the late 80's and early 90's. If you could find one of the few D'Cucci circle race jets and put enough horsepower in it they are really great and safe boats at speed. Unfortunately I think only three or four exist. Good luck, comp jet is a fun class and full of great racers.
