Usually we break even or get a small amount back. Owed $9963 to the Feds and $425 to the State.
Sounds about right from what I've been hearing. I dunno if people have changed their filing or what codes have changed, if only we had a tax pro that could swoop in on their magic carpet and give is the scoop?

When I had a real job, and thus made real money, my "best" year damn near killed me. They took more than I grossed the previous year! I looked at my wife and said, "Just us, our piddly household, supported 3 illegal families! And they're driving Escalade's!"
We get ours done next week, I'll report back. We don't make squat, and have 3 kids I can write off. Still going to suck!

Kind of a mess with everything that we had going on last year. Still waiting for the dust to settle and had a bit of a heart attack moment with and IRA rollover that we were given a 1099 for a fair amount of $$$$. LOL. The wife was a bit worri…. We shall see what happens. Might have to sell all the toys we bought last year.

LOL……NOT!!!!!

The only way folk are going to know how much their taxes are is if we did away with withholding. Make it hurt to write the check. People always talk about how much they get back and most don't know what they paid. This will never happen.

Plus in our lovely state, Newscumb always talks about the surplus. He doesn't admit to over taxing us.

Well shit this scares me. Last year owed a whopping 68 to feds. Got back ( from memory) 1400 ish from ,
CA. .
Nothing has changed. Same write offs etc.
I’m afraid to do mine now. 😱😱😒

I lost another kid... damn productive member of society I raised.... so my filing status changed from HOH to single, and I owed the Fed 800+ and got 500 back from CA.
Immediately changed my withholdings. I usually get something back, or break even. Not sure if it was not having a child dependent or the "no new taxes" but screw this.

No withholdings to change on the fed anymore. They just take what they take I think. And yes. I lowered my state down to zero I think.🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🙏🙏

Turbo tax just completed. I have been using "home and business" for the past 7 years.

Refund almost the same as last year, I did notice the standard deduction went up a few hundred.

plus I funded my 2022 IRA to increase my Federal tax return another $1100.

Hey there! It sounds like you're having a bit of a rough time with your taxes this year, I'm sorry to hear that. Taxes can definitely be a headache, especially if you feel like you're not getting the return you were hoping for.
Uhhh. Okay.

Don't forget, extra points if wife and girlfriend are in the same pic and since she is 27 there would be extra extra points for the above mentioned pic😉

Not as bad as last year, but I'm going with a new firm and working with them to get every write-off I can!

I believe that all has been completed. I feel for the ones doing the real Work. Personal in AZ and Hawaii as well as business on booths sides and then the kicker that we did not know about was my MIL’s trust. That came up 2 weeks ago by our CPA. Thank God for him. 👍 fortunately both my MIL and wife are sweethearts and the Trust people LOVE them. They pulls strings and made it happen in time. But then again we just put things in their control the year and there is more to come so they are still nice to us. LOL

Getting $3K back.
CPA clipped us $800 for the tax prep is the eye opener.
I inherited my wife's CPA when we got married. Great gal who also charged $800 to do our taxes.

The next year I started using turbo tax with her last return as a template as to which forms I would need with the carry forward amounts etc.

Now TT Home and business is $80. and does a great job in about 90 minutes.

I think she was great, our situation just did not need a "great" CPA !

I'd like to retract my previous statement. Yes we're still getting some back, but way f'ing less than we previously thought. On top of that it was better to have my 20yr old claim on her own as it would have cost us over $1200 if we claimed her. As it is she has to pay almost $300. Kids a full time student and although she works the stables, her summer job at the country club is where she makes her $. Most of her tips were on a cc, so there's that too... At least she doesn't have any school loans and is almost done with school....

Those CPA’s suck! Lol.. when I was self employed it was 5k for business/payroll taxes and crap. Then he would still hit up both my business partner and I for another 6-700 dollars each. That was almost 10 years ago.

W2 employee now and spend about $100 on TurboTax each year.

We do Turbo also. Unless you are really doing something a little sketchy, it works fine. $80

Turbo as well. Like that all the past info is in there and you just have to update/upload your new income/deductions and e-file There is not a lot of mystery involved as an individual tax payer (thats legal anyway) where a CPA is going to get you back the money you pay him. Corporation/small business for sure, I'd get one........

I did the Turbo tax, use the last refund as a template trick successfully for years but now its got more tricky.

Redeemed a lot of inherited bonds, and will again and again, have a special needs child living at home for life, and a student, liquidating investments, rolling over investments, transferring investments, inheritances, school and trusts funds of all kinds coming from all directions, going all over the place,, first time write offs, Tax system almost has me by the nut sac.

No, it has me by the nutsac.
Good thing I have a smart wife, that helps a lot.
