Funny story.
There used to be a dude in town that did a cool Christmas tree lot at his house/property. In the woods on a creek deal. Bon fires, smores, hot coco for the kids, shots and beers for the adults. Cool little shop set up selling ornaments and antique Christmas crap.
20'+ trees for sale. You could special order for the following season also. Saw a bunch of trees over $1000. Some over 2g.
Even the typical grocery store sized trees were $100+.

Got pretty buzzed cruising around checking it all out one night. Kids were about 4 and got cold and went to the truck with my wife to warm up. They passed out.
Wife and I decide to bail. Hit the local grocery store and grabbed a $40 tree on the way home. Kids had a great time and I saved a couple hundred bucks.

You get it from Tucker?

No I was gonna text him but we stopped at a place that had them in their front yard about a mile from our house this morning. Any tree $25 already cut.

ā€¦ $25 ???, Neighbor girl and her boyfriend just paid $100 for an almost identical tree if yours is a Douglas firā€¦ of course that is in North Hollywood, and not near anywhere where they come close to growing wildā€¦
ā€¦ Up on OroQuincy Highway above Lake Orovilleā€¦ Silver tip Christmas trees appear to grow wild by the side of the roadā€¦ pretty sure silver tips are the ones that are really expensive???ā€¦ I guess I should say they used to grow wildā€¦ Pretty sure the big fire would have wiped them outšŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

Bought a 7-8ā€™ noble fir for 150 in town. Could of gone to Home Depot for cheaper but I like to shop local. But overall insane what tress cost these days.

This one was $899.99. Wish I had a kid stand next to it for reference. Probably about 15 feet tall.

OK, this is a first. Not sure of all the details but the basics are obvious. Neighbors apparently dont get along. One places an add on CL or whatever for a free xmas tree just have to cut it down and haul. Must take between hours of because of work. Turns out, those hours were when no one was home.

So the homeowner comes home, wheres my tree?? Checks cameras, police are called story comes out. Outside of the guy leaving an electronic trail, almost a genius crime.

Got a little live tree last year. Planted it by the garage after New Years. It lived, so I dug it up two days ago and moved it back inside. Curious to see how many years my wife lets me get away with the reusing the same tree.

Yeah moon valley nurseries one of the only places to get a larger tree and they know it. Probably get a permit and go cut it myself next year.

Canā€™t beat the price of a permit out on the National Forest, but every time I go looking for a wild tree they all seem so scrawny.

$0.00... We bought a fake one years ago. We have an air freshener that smells like the real deal.

My drive way road entrance is adjacent to a Huge Family owned Christmas tree farm https://www.hiddenspringschristmastreefarm.com/ Our southern view looks out over it , After Thanksgiving this place is a beehive of activity for about a month with folks enjoying the "experience of going/getting a fresh tree" Its also a wedding venue" ............. My tree comes in 3 sections and is pre lit , we might put it up this week (or next)

The setting - Christmas tree lot
The cast - Me & the Mrs.

Mrs. - That tree is too big!!!
Me - I have been doing this for all my life. Are you questioning me?
Mrs. - noā€¦
Me - Who built you are dream home that you love?
Mrs. - you didā€¦
Me & the Mrs. go with the tree that I wanted
The guys at the lot load it up in our truck.
We get it home.
Come to find out the top of the tree did not have a sturdy branch to place the topper.
The Mrs. - What are we going to do? The topper will never work we shoudl have gotten the other three that smaller.
Me - donā€™t worry!!! Please remind Me of what the neighborā€™s nickmname is for mā€¦.
Mrs. - Toolman
Me - yeah and I got this.
Me - I zip tie a little stick to the top of the tree. I placed the stick a bit high and the placed the topper. Then I proclaimed honey I shoudl have never doubted you and your judgement. We should have gone with the smaller tree. THis is too tall. It is ok we will just pull everything off the tree and cut 6ā€ off the bottom. Just about then you could hear a pin drop and the moaning started As she thought of how much work that wouLd Be.

Oh the joy of Christmasā€¦ā€¦

IMG_1194.png

After she walked away I pushed the stick down 3ā€ and we are good to goā€¦

In the past I would pay $80-95 for an 8ft tree. In the past few years itā€™s been $120-$150. Last year it was like $200-$300 and I lost my mind. Went and got a shit tree at Home Depot for $80 and was bummed. Not sure what Iā€™m doing this year.

We're headed to the woods this weekend to pick one. My Sis-in-law and nephew are coming to town and it will be the first time they get to do that.
