Have one in the living room and one in the family room off the kitchen. But up here in the pacific northwest real fireplaces are common. Here its rare to see A/C in houses.

Got one. If it really rains and the temps drop like the forecast suggests, I'll probably throw some logs on for Thanksgiving day. The snow level in SD county is going to drop low. It would suck to have a dusting and not have a fire going.

We do, but don't use it very often. The thermostat is in the same room, and if we get a fire going in that room the rest of the house is cold because the heater never kicks on.

I've got all my original, never worn, concert shirts from the Maiden concerts I've seen. Probably the best one I saw was with Anthrax and Iron Maiden.

When we remodeled our house years ago, the fireplace was removed. I didn't want the hassle and inefficiencies.

In an unrelated development, I had to have my cancerous thyroid removed in 2007. I have to take Synthroid every day as a replacement.

After that, I became unbelievably sensitive to smoke. I can't stand to be around cigarettes at all. Fireplace smoke has the same effect. When it gets below 50° around here, all of the Texans have to stoke up a big blaze. I try to stay inside to avoid it.

It's low 30's outside right now, supposed to hit mid- to low 20's tonight. Moved out the woodstove a couple weeks ago, and put in a pellet stove. So yes, push button, but not for ambiance. We heat the house with it...cheaper than the alternatives, and a bag every couple days instead of stoking the old stove...really nice;)

Wood burning all the way. Pic taken last night. I just picked up my winter wood pile a couple of weeks ago. Price keeps going up. $100 for a full size truck with 6.5” bed packed as tight as I want to the top of the bed rail. OC pricing. Was $60 a few years ago. Oh well. I’m paying for memories in that price so it’s still worth it.

Went with a Valor natural gas insert 25 years ago. Uses aluminum dryer vent up the chimney for the flue. Heats the entire living space in the house. Our bedroom has the windows open year round, like to sleep in a cold environment.

I find it kind of ironic that the left banned fireplaces (and other things related too). And now here is a left leaning person is starting threads asking who can have one?

I almost couldn’t believe it when I heard they banned them in new construction, but nothing surprises me anymore..

Also banned new installations of natural gas in residential construction in some California counties.

Now you know why it takes a permit to cut down a tree in Cal. and importing firewood is illegal.
I will say I do get it somewhat. I have one neighbor to the left of me who has severe respiratory issues. The other neighbor on the right will burn anything to not have to pay to put it out on the curb. Respect for neighbors has killed the simple act of burning.
Natural gas is so cheap here the effort to heat with wood is negligible. But to some it was/is a way of life. They don't go to the Gym, they cut/split wood.
The sight of a nice fire is very soothing imo.

I have a Kiva fireplace in both the living room and master bedroom, made out of adobe (like the whole house) so they retain the heat for hours after.

I have a wood burning stove in the shop, and a wood burning stove in the Cabin.

We have a kiva outside, and a fire pit outside. I dont own a NG/Propane powered fire. :)
