I'm talking REAL horror Movies, the ones that scared us as kids? Or even newer ones that are really good?

My daughter is 14 and she's infatuated with the horror genre. At age 10 I let her watch Gremlins as a tester movie. She thought is was dumb but funny. At 12 I let her watch Maximum Overdrive (on TV without cussing). Again, she thought it was dumb. (That movie scared the hell outta me when I was 9). At 13 I jumped right into it and let her and a few friends watch Insidious with parents approval, because old or not it's pretty creepy for a child. They LOVED IT, little screams from the living room and bedroom all night LoL.
6 months ago I let her watch Saw with my wife and I again she loved it.
I walked into the living room 20 minutes ago and she's watching Child's Play from 1988. She's bored with it halfway through the movie.
So I went on a search for the BIG 3 Freddy, Jason and Michael Myers. We settled on Halloween 1 😎.
I tried to go for Nightmare on Elm st but she wants to save that for another day.

we'll see how this pans out. So far she has the creeps LoL.

Im really looking forward to going through the old 80's and 90's horror Movies with my daughter little by little as she gets older.

My daughter loved/loves scary movies, it was always our thing to go see them in the theatre when they came out. She probably started watching them around 9 or 10.

Only a few did she actually think were scary, most she considered sorta dumb.

I watched Pet Cemetery with my parents when I was 8. I also thought predator was scary when I was 9.

I was 9 when I saw the Exorcist and about 10 when I saw the Howling. Both freaked me out pretty bad. In the Howling when the dead guy slowly turns and attacks the lady😳. I have a thing for werewolf movies no, but back then😣
The slasher flicks never bothered me too much.

Kids been watching pet cemetery since she was 7 doesn’t phase her. There was that conjuring 2 movie that kept her on her toes. She had a bad dream woke up screaming, I had to remind her that I’d blast anything that walks through the door. Back to sleep she went lol.

Watching Jaws at 14 in the movie theater. When they dive on that wreck, and the head pops out of the hole in the hull I literally jumped out of my seat and into the main center aisle. So embarrassing.
I made it through the Exorcist OK but one of those first Zombie movies was so gross I had to leave the theater. The cannibal scenes were just to horrifically real.
Had an argument once with my wife. I told her the boys were too young for the Wizard of Oz. Told her the flying monkeys were too much. She found out soon enough how right I was.

My daughter loved scary movies when she was little. She thought the scene in Jurassic Park where the guy gets his head bit off way Way cool! LoL

My son still won't watch scary movies. He's 22.

Try Misery. That's a good one.

Predator vs Aliens ain't bad at all.

Predator is good.

If you wanna go old school, try Ghost Story or The Changeling (with George C. Scott).

Pitch Black w/Vin Diesel is good.

Pet Cemetery?

Super 8?

Stand By Me. 👍

The Lost Boys

Poltergeist?

The Thing (John Carpenter)

The Shining - Never gets old.

Watch Signs, The Ring, And then watch Scary Movie 3 right after you watch those two. Would help if you watches 8 Mile too, but that's not really a horror movie! 😝

We've never sheltered much of anything from our kids.
Dead or severely injured people on the highway that we've stopped to help, R rated movies, we just let it roll and it's been fine.
May be from the wifes Euro culture upbringing damfino but that's how we roll.

I never got freaked out with the horror movies with intense gore. I got bored of it. The ones that gave me chills were the ones that I thought could come true or more of a thriller type that made me think. Maybe have her watch zombie land for a good horror comedy.

Silence of the lambs
Identity
Seven

The Strangers -that got to me. That’s probably more a horror film you are referencing. That was just cruel to watch. I won’t watch that again. I don’t know what it is about that movie, but it terrified me.

At 14, faces of death and a few more ring just about right. Humans are cruel Mofos and being aware of any situation should be paramount at that age where they get to explore on their own.

My older brother saw the Exorcist at 9 and it fucked him up big time. Honestly, I'd wait until they're teens.

Super 8 would be a good one.....or is it VHS I'm thing of? Pitch black is one I forgotten about. That was great in the theater.
I let her watch Blair Witch and that spooked her.

She watched signs and was bored 🤣. The ring and the grudge!!!!!

Speaking of Sci-fi......Alien and Aliens are bad-O

At 8 snuck Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974 version) and watched it. Messed me up big for about 2 years but then made me realize I love scary movies!! At 10 I watched The exorcist and poltergeist and loved em 😎. Probably why my daughter loves em too.

My younger daughter and my son want nothing to do with horror.

The earlier the better. And same goes for nudity too. I'm on the full blown European mindset that if you make that stuff common place in their early lives nothing with faze them later. This country is weird about "protecting the children" I don't know how civilization as a whole would have survived if they had decided to lock the kids in their rooms until they were 30 before introducing them to fears and naked women.

The first R rated movie my parents took me to see was Alien. I was 10 Or 11. It was intense and scary, but I thought it was awesome. It was the only thing I talked about for a week straight. I remember standing in line to watch my first R movie at theatres with my parents made me feel like one of the big kids. Great experience.

Seven. Great flick. Two of my favorite actors.

If we are going to go down that road...

We were kids, like 10-12 or so, and my dad had us for his visitation day. Well I guess something came up for him so he decided to drop us off at the movie theater. He bought himself and us tickets to either Beverly Hills Cop or 48 Hours (both R rated), sat us in the theater and told us to not leave until he came back. He walked out and took care of whatever he needed to take care of, in the meantime my brother and I saw the movie twice and had a ball. He came back about at the end of the second viewing.

I dont recall if anyone noticed two young kids by themselves watching the movie with no parent around, but we didn't care. And we didn't wind up socially deviant or anything from that, so anyone that says otherwise gets an eyeroll from me.

My mom, on the other hand, would have popped a gasket if she had found out about either leaving us there to watch it alone or the R rated movie in general. So our dad was the cool one to hang with.

I hate dumb unrealistic super scary movies without a plot. Always have always will...lol

my 12 y/o has followed in my footsteps. Give us a suspenseful movie with some scares we are in. Put on anything with a scary clown or dolls that kill you and we are out:D
