The wife and I are looking seriously at moving to Portugal. I'm told buying a car over there will cost over 30% more than I'm paying the seller.
And to think that taxes are the main reason we're leaving CA.

VAT equivalent so that importers do not have a competitive advantage over local stuff.
I dont think so I've been using Google translate on some of it .... Diritti = customs duties

A good example of duties making the item more expensive for the consumer.

The USA did not pay that duty, the end consumer did, the "country" never pays.

It exists as somebody else mentioned to reduce competition to local goods.

If there are no "local" alternates, it just equates to higher prices paid by the consumer.

I know there is a heavy "displacement " tax in Germany where my main factory is located. The owner of the main hotel we stay at has a dodge Ram Hemi. He is considered a total baller because of the amount of taxes he pays yearly. That's why it's all EVs or tiny displacement turbo diesels

Yeah but you're talking about a small island. They want to keep the number of cars down.

Unless it's a GM or Ford crate engine, I would think anything rebuilt would be used?

🤷‍♂️
It's a blower motor they built to customers request, they crated and shipped. Pretty sure they can call it what they want?

Interesting....so dynoing it would make it a "used" engine? Used as a r&d test mule.

Yes. I have shipped containers full of UTVs back in the day to UAE. We would buy them, drive them up and down the street mark them as used and ship them to the buyer.

FWIW this was literally a brand new "crate motor" 6.2 VVT LS deal I spose there are things to "fudge" on relative to that but the reality is one does not want to FAFO with customs or international laws when making a near 30K deal Even the wood and pallets require certifications and are subject to rules and laws Italy even required an Apostille (complicated form of a notorized statement of Facts) Better for the experience and learning . When I shipped a 17 foot jet to Cameroon SA a few years back their consulate rep who sounded like Edi Ameen started yelling at me about if this "boat" was equipped with "machine guns" Fun times
