I'm headed down to KOH this morning and checked CalTrans for road conditions. This is what they are showing for highway 395 as of this morning:
"A high wind advisory is in effect from the San Bernardino/Kern Co Line to the Kern/Inyo Co Line - Travel is not recommended for campers, trailers, or permit loads
A high wind advisory is in effect from Pearsonville to Lone Pine (Inyo Co) - Travel is not recommended for campers, trailers, or permit loads"
I checked weather report for Lone Pine and it is showing sunny with 15 MPH winds. This is what I'm driving. Duramax and 20 foot trailer with SxS in it. The SxS weighs about 1500 pounds plus I have a bunch of fire wood, a couple 5 gal fuel jugs, two 5 gal water jugs, and camping stuff in there.
Not sure if I should risk it as it says " Travel is not recommended for campers, trailers, or permit loads". You think it will be okay and CalTrans is just being overly cautious? The alternative is to go down highway 95 on NV side all the way to Death Valley and cut down to Baker but that is an extra 150 miles. Plus, it could be windy that route too as it usually is. I will be taking 95 through Hawthorne and then highway 6 to Bishop because of heavy snow in Mammouth area.
