Amazing I have never been to the Salton Sea until today (we travel a ton and absolutely adore weird America). Besides some of the weird as shit dumpy stuff in a few places I thought it was pretty amazing, quiet and beautiful.

Stopped at the Kelso Railway Station on the way home too! Such a great building in the middle of nowhere Mohave desert.

The guy who owned the Kelso station used to live in San Dimas. He'd head out there and work on it during cooler months. Don't know if he's still around, or who owns it now.

Back road America is really cool. Road trips let you see what is still left of American history. Things you don't see flying places.

Absolutely.

Funny, there is a lot of complaining in this world about so many things. My wife and I have found there is always something cool no matter where you go or look. We love cruising the US for cool places and odd sites.

Actually have stopped and spent some time checking it out and taking photos. I love the architecture as we are 50s fanatics (built in 57)!! It is true tiki Polynesian design and something any tikifile such as myself needs to see. Thanks for sharing!!!

Once things warm up it moves from vaguely smelling like the ocean to an overwhelming scent of death.

??? Whats up with that? (Edit, saw other thread. Yeah, that would turn me off of the gas station....But not the whole town. I mean, it's the location of the very first Del Taco. Has Peggy Sues Dinner and is a true piece of preserved 50's americana / route 66. )



By the way, absolutely love abandoned stuff. Always since I was a little kid have been intrigued. Wanted to know the history of abandoned buildings and shit you see. We'd go on road trips as a kid and my dad would actually distract me if we drove past an old abandoned house or barn because I'd want to go check it out LOL Salton sea is totally fascinating.

My memory is a little sketchy on it but I do believe it has made the rounds though Burning Man.

I believe I have spend time at the top also.......

There might be a connection with the location and my memory of it.
