My 300 on a 24' Avalon tops at 51 in perfect conditions. I was hoping.for.the cruise at 40 and decent gas mileage but its close to turning 5k at that point

Why didn't you just repower existing toon?
cause it's a honda for starts,...I'd have to change all the way to the helm... we had a 10yr warranty, owned it for 5 yrs,... but... changing the motor voided all the warranty... next, it's only rated for 250 hp... motor would cost 32k...plus what ever to install.... so for 60k.... I get a 5 yr newer toon, with the lay out we like and the 350hp merc...

we got the 243
Question for all the toon fans. How's the wind for the passenger when it is cold out? If I ever had a toon I feel like the wife would need a place to bundle up and stay warm on colder outings. At least a double seat at the helm. Thoughts?

58 with a 350? Dang.

I got 63 max in perfect conditions with a 400 Verado, but she’s a big heavy fucker. I cruise around at 45-50 though and it seems to be the sweet spot between being wrung out and my passengers / kids getting beat the fuck up by the wind.

I was thinking about raising the motor up a hole and see what happens though.

The new toon was $60,000 or it's $60,000 to upgrade?

I know I've asked you about your toon before. I'd love to see it & chat to you about it someday.

I think your Manatou is actually one of the faster toons out there power for power. 63 with a 400 is really good.

so 1 mile per hour per 10 hp ????, my evinrude 250 ran 50..thats 2mph per 10 hp... and best ever of 55,... the honda 250 run 43, thats 1.7 per 10 hp... the merc with that math should run 58-60 mph.... mph...sooo... the merc 350 is the lowest performing motor of all the out boards????? thats what i'm thinking with out running,,,and the evinrude is still king of the hill??? and the 400hp is the lowest performance????@1.575 per hp???? 2 mph @ 400 hp would be 80 mph....

Are you still a 2 toon family?
I'm not as high up in the family as my wife... I sold one and had the other sold... she said no... , I bitched the whole trip tp topoc, came back and bought her the 350 hp toon... so alls good... toons don't make mathematical sense when look at what it costs to go 50 mph,... and it gets worse as you in crease speed....you can go 50 mph in a bayliner...you just get less hey lam....toons take more power and use more fuel than fiber glass boats...and go half as fast....

Boating isn’t all about spped. You need to factor in comfort and fun.

Every Magic deck boat with a 496 HO will do around 50 with several people on it. With more power they will do 60-65 loaded.

We are going backwards in performance, and spending 2-3x to do it. :)

Peak pontoon is a single 350-400 and run it.

The topic was deck boats 😁 unless we were talking toons. Twin 300rs vs a 600 Merc would be the closest comparison.

No way they’ll have the same performance for double the price.

Crazy how much more simple and functional the pontoon feels tho. I never expected to be going as fast as mine actually did.

Congrats on the new COUCH. :)

Didn’t realize you were comparing deck boats to pontoons.

I was saying a Nordic, Eliminator, Conquest etc single 600 I/O vs twin 300r’s is not double in cost and the outboards will usually be faster.

Either way congrats on the new purchase!

Gotta be honest having driven quite a few of them.. I really like the twins on a pontoon better than singles. Maneuvering around the dogs.. being able to cruise with a load etc. They aren’t double the speed but those two things they do infinitely better than singles

some where down the line, as soon as you say boat, the first question is how fast will it go......so that being said,.. speed is really a factor...and most don't wanna leave speed on the table, they wanna bring it with them...with the quest to make pontoons less slow. they started putting more and more power to try to put them in the performance boat category.... and change the game... pontoons are still in there own category and will never compete with a true performance boat,.. like in tractors will never compete with dragsters... so if the quest is speed VS cost pontoons aren't even in the game.....120k for a 350 hp tritoon doesn't make any mathematical sense to end up at 55 mph wot..... you can buy a deck boat for the same price that goes 75/80 mph for less.... so , for me, I have lost all desire to run up the river at 80 mph ,... people have no clue how to drive.... so we sold the deck boat and bought 2 pontoons about 5 years ago... having to be on pin all the time to run 40 sucks.....trying to load on the trailer in the wind sucks...I think of toons as ferry boats to get a load of people across the water...after spending 125k for a single engine toon,I feel like a guy driving in the rain with windshield wipers with no rubber on the blades....dumb fuc, dumb fuc dumb fuc, dumb fuc.....
