Doing awesome with no issues....other than not being able to play in the NBAHow's your knee doing?

I'm having some FOMO on life in general.....ya know, like being a burden on my wife & unable to handle things at home. Big reason I've put it off for 45yrs. How long did it take you to be on your own two feet?Doing awesome with no issues....other than not being able to play in the NBA
Seriously, rehab is important.....pre surgery rehab on your core area would be nice as you will be using your core in rehab quite a bit. My main concern was that I could get back to a non pain day when walking or even being able to sleep on my back. Both accomplished.
The other knee I wanted replaced as well ad my Doc agreed with me but.....my health insurance only allowed the knee to be cleared out. That has run its course so I will get that done over the next year or so.
You got this......your Doc does make a diff but the rehab peep rule after the fact.
Good luck and good health going forward!
I probably shouldnt answer this...lolI'm having some FOMO on life in general.....ya know, like being a burden on my wife & unable to handle things at home. Big reason I've put it off for 45yrs. How long did it take you to be on your own two feet?

And holy hell it's embarrassing to admit I own a damn walker
Lol
Ya...swelling is when that throbbing pain comes ;(The circulating ice machine is a game changer. They significantly help to reduce swelling, you'll get off pain meds quicker, etc....
I was skeptical but after a rotator cuff surgery, it was very beneficial. Good luck Zig!
Ditto on the ice machine and its benefits. If you can use one I would highly recommend. The circulating ice machine is a game changer. They significantly help to reduce swelling, you'll get off pain meds quicker, etc....

Go in with the mindset you arent gonna take them then. I dont take any of that stuff. Not even when I had emergency kidney stone surgery. Its a mindset Zig.Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm not a big fan of narcotics and hope to be off 'em asap. My hope is to be mobile sooner than later.
Do it without pills as long as you are able to. Then you could cut the pill and do half. If you canโt take it then the other half. I am the same way if the pain is manageable donโt. But if you need it you have it. Most patients these days are up walking the same day or next Like others have stated. You got this Ziggy!!!Go in with the mindset you arent gonna take them then. I used to take advils but wont even do that anymore
I have a fairly high pain tolerance plus my knee injury is so old I think it just ignores pain signals. Even my ortho doc is surprised I walk 3-4 miles every day & don't have constant pain as worn down as it is.Do it without pills as long as you are able to. Then you could cut the pill and do half. How did you do in rehab? I was doing it 3 days a week and started a couple of days after surgery.Well, you are some lucky guys. Mine hasn't gone nearly as well. Looks like the doc is going to have to put me back on the table again and manually bend the hell out of it. I can't get more than 96* flex in mine. Gonna hurt for a few days, but it hurts now when I try to bend it.
They put me with in home rehab for 3 weeks. Basically, didn't do squat for it. In hindsight, I should have gone straight to outpatient rehab. In outpatient rehab now, 3 days a week, but I'm not sure it's going to help that much. If the doc cracks it for me, I should be good and will get rehab 5 days a week for two weeks afterward. How did you do in rehab? Same day I was walking with a walker. Within 1 day I was walking all over Lucystrikes ranch without the walker. I did have to slow down a bit after that though as I was impacting my rehab negatively as i kept walking around challenging AJ to races. 2 weeks after I was riding my Harley...went to a gun show. Within 3 weeks or less I took off on a 3k mile road trip driving my stick dually with a 42' toy hauler. Oh....took no pain meds
I aint your average bear though. Results may vary. Lol
All true
Just know you need to feel pain when rehabbing. The thing to find is that gray area between good pain and damaging pain. You dont want to damage your knee again. It has to settle in. If you need pain meds take them. I dont simply because I dont want to mask it. It allows me to know the different levels.
The throbbing will test you a lot! Lots of ice on the knee for X period of time...then off...then on again. All while elevated.
Have a good comfortable area you can sit for many hours while your leg is elevated with everything you need.
If you can get one of those circulating ice machines I would suggest it. If not have 4 of those large ice pads as you will be rotating them constantly.
Not much more to add. You get the results you put in
Have the circulating ice machine coming from Amazon $130 ish. And already have the compressing ice gel wrap dohicky as a backup.
My doc ordered home therapy but said go get real rehab as soon as I can. He isn't a fan of the home rehab but for the first little while it's still better than nothing. They put me with in home rehab for 3 weeks. Basically, didn't do squat for it. I'll probably just hoard the pain meds I get for parties later.
If your recovery is anything like mine, I was shocked to realize how much pain I had been in for decades when for the first time since 1988, I had zero knee pain (about 3 months post surgery). It is amazing what the body can get used to. I now have had both replaced and couldn't be happier.
