Went to the lake this morning and just had it out for the first time this summer since I live in Colorado. But anyway everything was good when i went and hit the throttle to plane out and a noise comes like an wizzing noise and the power falls off and the engine rpms rose quickly but engine is ok i caught it before the rpms went to high. The setup is a 454 with a bravo 1 drive. So I get the boat off the lake and back at home and pulled the drive to find that the shaft spun in the engine coupler and i was wondering if anyone here has done this on their boat and if so did you pull the engine or is possible to do this without taking out the engine? Any advice is always appreciated as well

Thanks everyone:headscratch:

I did mine, it was a lot easier than I thought it would be, don't have to pull the engine completely out but most of the way. As long as you can get to the coupler, there's about 8 bolts. Make sure when you put it all back in you get the engine completely level... Saved myself $1200 doing it myself, really was not too hard, and I'm no mechanic...

Changing the coupler without pulling the engine is possible, but pulling the motor allows you to properly clean up the flywheel and bellhousing. You also get the chance to look over everything on the engine and in the bilge.

IMO pulling the engine isn't much more work and you get a much better result. Good luck...

Just remember a regular engine hoist may not work depending on the boat as far as how tall the boat sits on the trailer. An A Frame is usually used but people have used forklifts, boom trucks the list goes on. $1200 is a good estimate to do the job and you will have to reallign the drive when you put it back together.;)
