We rescued this sweet boy about a year ago, he was in the local shelter and scheduled to be put down the next day. He was skin and bones and cowering in the corner of his cage giving us the biggest puppy dog eyes ever, so we brought him home.

We believe that he is 5 years old, and was heavily abused in some sort of situation where he was forced to guard a home or property. I believe it was probably a drug house or drug grow, as he really hates males that wear bandanas and sunglasses.

We recently moved onto a property with five acres, and plan to have a mini Ranch. Unfortunately he is not compatible with livestock or small animals, as we are now finding out the hard way. We refuse to take him back to the pound, so we will stick it out until we rehome him or find a rescue that will commit to giving him a good life.

The good:

Excellent with our other two dogs, a boxer and a Puggle. They all play and he has never been aggressive in the least.

Loves women and is quick to guard them once he trusts them, which is pretty quick.

Adores our 11 year old daughter, she treats him like a big teddy bear and he eats it up.

Makes a great security alarm, his bark is pretty intimidating and he's not afraid to use it.

We have yet to see him be aggressive with any person, even though he doesn't like males at first. Yes he barks, but never anything else.

The bad:

He can easily go over a 6-foot fence, and has a tendency to wander early in the morning or late at night.

He doesn't like men, although he has warmed up very nicely to me. It takes a little while though.

As stated above, not compatible with other household animals or livestock. Not 100% set on kill, but wants to aggressively play with and chase them.

He came with the name Phineas, and we kept it. Can you help?

I would take him in .5 seconds until the 6 foot fence part. That is exactly what I am looking for. Beautiful. Where are you located Jus out of curiosity? I see a cactus.

Apple Valley, California. We've never seen him do it with chain link or metal fence, just the 6 ft solid fence board type.

I wish your pup the best. If you can’t find him a new home, send him off to boarding school. You would be surprised what a good dog trainer can do in a few months of in house training . I have a buddy who brings dogs in to train full time, he can work wonders with dogs.

We used to have a dog that would go through our fence. Set up an invisible fence deal and that stopped it.

I had an escape dog. Installed electric wire top and bottom on a 1/2 acre lot, that stopped that shit. The buzz box was a little oversized for the property size. It would cut the grass that touched it and make a little click if grounded on something bigger. My dog hated/respected that little click sound, like every two seconds the box would send a charge down the line.

Had to do this for our GSD, he was breaking fence boards so we ran hot wire low and 1/2 way up, the box is for 15mi but we're like a 1/3 acre so it packs quite the punch.
