I’m sure someone will recognize himself in a few of these photos I just dug them out the other day.
Enjoy, back in the day we’re going to Havasu was fun 24/7!

loved the Unlimited Hydros - those guys are nuts! The York / EMCOR boat was owned by a sister EMCOR company of ours in Vegas so we always got free tickets and hospitality for Mission Bay.

Check out this guys story:
“In 1953 Slovak was a young Czechoslovakian airline pilot with a burning ambition to leave the recent Communist rule of his homeland for a new life in the West. After careful, secret planning he made a daring escape by rerouting the airliner he was flying and took the plane to a military base in West Germany. Once granted political asylum he settled in the Northwest U.S., became Bill Boeing Jr.’s personal pilot, a hydroplane and airplane racing champion, famous stunt flyer and Continental Airlines captain.“

It wasnt all that long go that hydros ran at Havasu......less than 10 years ago they were part of one of our SCSC race weekends, they were not the unlimiteds though, one step below. Still stupid fast and also what seemed like not enough room, they were really close to the spectator boats in Thompson Bay.

Told communism to kiss his ass, became boat racer...Pretty sure that gentleman had an American flag or two.
Great pic!

Detroit River for me, almost always the Gold Cup. Probably started watching in about 1967 with my dad and neighbor. Miss Bardahl, Eagle Electric, Budweiser, Miller, Atlas Van Lines, all the big names. I can still hear those Griffin and Allison aircraft engines reverberating off the shore line. Great memories.

Is this a race, or did they run it at the shoot out ?
I believe it was 2004 with Dave V driving and it went 198, with it being slightly rough. They weren't pushing since they were getting to retire it. Later went 220 + at a exhibition run at Lake Oroville. Wonder if any inmates saw it?

I would like to thank Chris Davidson from the old HB Mag for inviting me to share his beach spot. There was a decent entry fee and he had a great spot.

I was probably 10-12 years old, we were headed to Havasu for god knows what. We see the Hydro’s on trailers etc. begged my dad to take me to the water to check it out. We watched a few make some passes then left to go home. I was pretty bummed but i didn’t know my dad had asked someone what all was going on, we went back the next day to watch the races, 100% forgot that trip with my pops, thanks for sharing these pics brought back a great memory of the old man.
