Haven’t been but my take on boat shows, rv shows etc. is you need to bring a ladder to reach that giraffes ass. Went to a gun show here in little Cortez Colorado looking for a cc for 22 yo granddaughter and lots of pride on anything. May just get her a can of mace and a stun gun.

I didn’t goto the boat show this year because I was at supercat, but twin 400 avalons are mid to high 300’s.. I bought mine for 202 out the door 2 years ago..

I understand inflation but a 50+% price increase doesn’t make sense to me.

I thought you were talking about food and beer prices at the show.
If you arrive poor at the show, you don't worry about prices except for the above mentioned.🙃

Still high.
Looked at a few, but pontoons are way overpriced IMO.

Schedule a measurement for snap in DecX and then redoing the power system in the ToyHauler via AdevntureSolar

There are never any deals at gun shows anymore.

Might be time to sell my avalon for real this time. 🤔 breaking even on boat was laughable not long ago.

My take? They should merge the boat show with SCFW and hold it at Riviera so all the vendors can be in one spot. Double the boat show attendance. It's a fuckin' no brainer except for politics and egos to make it happenI'm sure.

I've said it before, the Havasu boat show isn't a destination venue. People don't go to havasu to go to the boat show. People that live in havasu or just happen to be there for that weekend go. Smartest thing the boat show people could do is to hitch to a destination event like SCFW.

Very logical, but DS owners egos will not let it occur.
The Rivera is big enough to host the boat-show and I think vendors would like 1 spot.
Have SCFW participants in the slips just for show on Thursday, and keep the dock party on Saturday. Hell, I would maybe even charge $10 (50% donated to charity) to the dock party and allow the boat show to be free to the public.

If the show was at the riviera dealers could actually have boats in the water and do demos like a real big boy show too. lol

Yeah, take the "street party" portion out and turn it in to a vendors bizzar and boat show / boat show. Put all the big participants boats in the slips and do dock party / show friday and saturday nights.

Lots of cool things could be done. Bottom line, only thing it'll bring benefit to SCFW / Dave is making it more convenient for vendors. But it would be a game changer for the boat show people. EASILY double their attendance.

Tons of potential, just need DS organizer to let the ego go. I think RD would be willing to do it, but not sure about the other guys (they are $$ driven). RD said it best, SCFW is all about charity to the community.

Well having the boat show and the scfw on the same weekend and different locations is just not smart .
Boat show attendance was low .Like 50 % low .
Vendors were like what the hell happened.
One big event would be great
Or separate the two a month apart

When I went last year there were some sweet boats but only 1 entry level boat. The 19' Barron at a show price of around $75k with trailer. The guy followed me around for a bit putting the sales pitch on. I could get a 21' RC and fix it up for less than that.

One side is letting their ego drive them, the other is not. One side purposefully tried to get ahead of the other, and stepped on their own dick. They can either work with the adult in the room or cease to be relevant sooner than later..

I thought about going to the boat show. But reasoned, why pay to look at boats for sale? That and knowing boats are too damn expensive. No need to see what I can’t afford.

Its $10 admission... something to do and see what's new. You'll probably see some old friends or aquantences there you haven't seen in awhile and catch up a bit.

I discussed this as a potential.. but honestly I am not an event promoter and not sure I want to be one..

The easiest solution is to out the body show in March when it isn’t so damn hot out.

As we spoke about, I think you actually got a good thing going. Keep it tight and controlled as a smaller event with a cap. Bringing the boat show to SCFW does nothing really for you except centralize the vendors. Game changer for the boat show promoters though.

But yeah, more headache for you. f that.

Why not add a consignment / used boat for sale paddock off to one side of anyone of these events? Charge a hundred or two per boat and enforce some sort of quality control to keep the beaters out. Lots of folks are shopping for a used boat and this would increase both the event revenue and the participation count.

I was dumb enough to ask about the price on the Hallett 210 they had there and I was told 140K, OMG!
$140k yikes. We still have our 210. It does not get used as much since we bought the 255.

Boat show in March would increase attendance IMO. All the snowbirds would attend, since they need stuff to do.

If the event were at a combined location, you have 1 vender village (Increases vendor participation).
I get this is easier said than done.
But I attended SCFW to say hi to those I saw and spend money with the vendors, while looking at boats I will never purchase :)

I think the LHMA is still behind the Havasu Boat Show.

In recent years wasn't it kinda presumed that the Havasu Show was going to be the show to attend? West Coast builders barely committed to the Pomona Show because they needed to pick one to be at.

Get the promoters of these events to sit down together and work on dates that don't impact each other.

Bring back the real LA Boat Show!

I picked up a pretty fair deal at the Pomona show (best it was gonna be for now). My .02 is that inventory is catching up and filling in, shit gonna sit a little longer, some incentives are going to be necessary before the lots become empty again.

At those prices I could buy a nice performance boat .
Maybe I don’t understand the pontoon boating part .
Used to be cheap and easy.
Beach it,,, fun to drive,,, lots of good things when they were reasonable priced.

Hi Dave: When I did the LHBS for 11 years my preferred dates were always the first weekend in April as long as it wasn't Easter weekend. Definitely a little cooler in early April than three or four weeks later. Moving it into March is a dicey proposition -- weather is the main concern, especially wind.

From 2012 to 2022, I actually had a small consignment/used boat area at the LHBS ($50 to $100 to display) when space would allow -- it cut down on the number of freeloaders who just wanted to park their boat on the street next to the show. The biggest drawback came from the complaints of the larger new boat dealers exhibiting who didn't like the competition (you can't keep everybody happy).

Hi Cameron: You are correct, the Lake Havasu Marine Association started the boat show over 30 years ago and is still the sole owner. Back when I was doing the Havasu show (2012 to 2022) I never had a date conflict with Desert Storm -- Jim Nichols Sr. was great to work with. It was also made clear to me that many of the Havasu exhibitors did not want the boat show and Desert Storm held on back to back weekends -- they needed a little breathing room (two or three week separation) between events to get caught up.

And yes -- the collapse of the L.A. Boat Show at the L.A. Convention Center was a huge mistake.
