I could be wrong but I thought that was a federal requirement?

I think you have to be 18 to legally drop out of high school as well.
could be, again, I wasn't familiar with this and don't recall my parents having to get my schools permission to work when I was a teen. Maybe it's always been in place, but this is my first kid's first job, so it really caught me off guard that I need a school's permission for my daughter to work...

Here's my Kalifornistan rant for today. My 17yo daughter (18 in May) just landed her first job. In order to work and because she's under 18, she needs a work permit, and her school needs to approve. I've never heard of this and am just floored. There's already child labor laws on the books, but still, the school, not me, gets the final word on whether or not my daughter can take this job. Let that sink in. The school has the final say on whehther or not my child works. One more time. The school has the final say on whether or not my child works.

WTF
Neither of my older boys needed school approval to get part time jobs. Both had jobs at 16 (needed to earn gas and insurance money). Schools have too much power in CA
