Has it ever been done?

I have the tools, skills and ability to do the work, and custom designing services, machining, gears and gear boxes are all readily available to me at little to no cost.

Looking for durability as compared to an outdrive with big power.

Boat has trim tabs now, so expecting to use those initially before switching to cav plates simply for the bad ass factor, but will probably leave the hydraulic pump on place to operate the cab plates.

Thanks!

I would imagine that it would bow steer like crazy. Twin engine?

Why? Sacrifice trim, speed and fuel efficiency, other than that pretty good idea.

Anything can be done with enough time and materials. I think to vdrive it though, you're gonna have to boat tail the keel upwards towards the back to keep a shallow enough shaft angle and create clearance for the prop. (Like a ski boat)

I’m wondering if he could modify the hull with an oversize delta pad to ride on the tail? I don’t think size of the boat is a problem just the shape of the bottom.🤷

If you really want V-drive, find a Spectra XS that has shallower V than the 27 Hallett, JMHO. I do like the 27 Hallett though a bit more.👍You would also want a 10 degree shaft set up, so the V-drive would have to go up far forward.

A 270 Hallett vdrive with 800hp would probably struggle to break 45mph.

And durability with a vdrive? Haha. Thats a good one.

Well, build one with four engines, if one breaks a drive .you still have three to get you home. 🤔 :D:D
Barbarina, 1600HP, four Lambo engines.

If you look at the big boats that were actually made for a v-drive, Campbell's etc, those things barely ran in the 50s with big horsepower. I agree on the entry, that's a big boat.
Outdrive why do you scoff at v-drive reliability, not trying to start anything, just curious with your experience.

I’d be looking for a 24 spectra and blueprint the bottom. ParnellI had one that ran in the 90’s back in the day

Ive owned a few vdrives with big power, been around a ton of them, have lots of friends that have owned them. Something is always broken. Maybe low horsepower stuff is different. I don’t have experience with that. High hp vdrive stuff is nowhere near the reliability of a Mercruiser I/O set up.

Ok, I've just never really had a problem with any.

Some family friends had a pair XS with Richard Lee built TT motors. Rudy Ramos blue printed the bottoms as well. I know they had 1.25 gears and would run 5800, I'm sure some more familiar with V drives could equate that out to a speed.

As far as V drives those 2 Casale drives were heavily abused and they never had a problems. Dad rebuilt one of them in 40 years.

Joe Shelfo has (or had) an Eliminator 25' Eagle v-drive. I don't remember what it has for power, but it runs pretty good.

Do you still have this boat? I think my dad had it built originally in 1994.

Sam Maus Sr had a 24 Spectra XS Vdrive with a t400 and a Race Aero turbo set up. Ran 80 but had tons of broken drive line parts over the years. It was one of Jr and Marsha Brown/Meir/Fitzgeralds CSR training boats.
