what are your goals for the boat? I feel that, while they are very similar, they each have things that they do better than the other

I had a 210 for a few years and loved it. Build quality was great. The ride and handling were very, very good for a west coast style 21 v-hull. With a 454Mag/Bravo I once loaded 11 mature Wisconsites on board and could still plane easily and carry more speed than needed. I also think the 210 is really great looking, with better lines than the Howard.

From what I've read about the Howard, and seen in pictures, it would probably ride better than the 210. The extra foot in length and steeper deadrise would smooth things out. But that's purely a guess.

Love my 22 Howard. It is a BIG 22 and crushes the big water. Takes some seat time to get comfortable with and won't handle big power like the Hallett does.

Pre 1997 Howard 22's don't have the delta pad or notched transom.

I also love the full swimstep we have.

Can't go wrong with either boat. With small kids the Howard works great for us because of the DEEP interior.

Are you talking a Howard 22 Sport or the 22 Offshore? I had a 22 Sport with a shallow vee hull and it hated any water that wasn’t flat. It would beat the crap out of us on Havasu. The win goes to the Hallett 210.

If we’re talking the Offshore, with the deep vee, it cuts right through the Havasu chop with ease. Winner here is the Howard with the deeper vee, but around 70 the handling gets a little spooky. I hear the 210 will stay planted pretty good at higher speeds, depending on the chop.

Not sure if the one I’m looking at is a sport or not... but now that I look a little more I think it is.

What is the deadrise of a Howard 22 offshore?

That’s a sport. If that’s the comparison get the 210.

Howard 22 offshore crushes waves but gets a little touchy over 75.

Hallett 210 handles moderate water well, true 2-3ft swells (you know the internet 6 footers). Properly setup they’ll run over 110.

Personally (just my opinion), I prefer the Hallett. I like the lower freeboard for the river. I think they are easier to drive (Howards like or need tabs above 70ish). The Hallett is proven with big power. The Hallett is just dummy proof. I would agree that the Howard will run in bigger water, that being said the 210 can hold its own for a small boat.

It sounds great in the ad, but I know two guys who looked at it and passed. It has 500 hours too.

All I can say is go look at it. It was more of a project than either guy I know wanted to deal with, that being said if the price makes sense to you, maybe its worth taking on?

Did they give you any particulars about how it’s more of a project than what they wanted to deal with? I’m not looking for a project either. But some things can fly

I second everything that has already been said. Rough Water go with a Howard 22 offshore. If anything else go with the 210. My Dad and Uncle have matching 210's and they love them, ride great and run well.

With that budget, I would definitely consider getting into that Howard Sport you posted. It isn't going to ride as well as a 210 Hallett in the rough, but at the end of the day, it is still a Howard. It is built extremely well and will hold its value.

I love this boat. Clean, lines and colors that is. From what I've read I also assume it is literally clean as well. Anyway, beautiful boat sir.

You didn’t have any handling quirks? I haven’t heard of anyone setting one up that can run much past 75 mph?

Im not saying 700 isnt big power, 210’s however have been built with twin turbos and number 6 drives. With hp in the teens running 100 plus pulling skiers.

How did I know that offer would be coming......:D Thanks, I'm good for now.:)

Wife said I could keep the Hallett as long as I sell one of the cars, not that I asked her what she thought.:D

@BasilHayden had one that ran over 75. If you have enough seat time and the right tabs, you can throw some power at it.

His also had a left hand rotation drive, and they tried a ton of different props etc.. And again I don't think it ever ran much past 75 without getting spooky.

I drove it. It wasnt very fast. It was also a small motor with a little blower on it. It probably only made 650hp.

If it was me between the 2 I'd take the 22 Offshore.. I think the Hallett is more comfortable though (width wise). The Howard is going to be a better rough water boat.
