We decided to do something a little different for the long weekend this year and go somewhere that didn’t have a big body of water or place to ride the ATV’s. When going to Mexico we usually stick to the coastal areas and stay near the resorts if we leave at all from them like most American tourists.
Didn’t know what to expect heading to Guanajuato for this trip but glad we went. The town is rich in history and culture. Local people were fun to be around and very friendly. We used the Otay CBX bridge crossing that allows you to park on this side and walk across directly into the Airport (Was part of building it so that was cool).

This city cannot be compared to any border city on the Mexico side . Just driving from Airport to our Hotel you can tell you were in a area that took pride in their city.

Yellow building was a church and the white building is a university.

During they day local students would gather as much people to join them at night for music and walking through town. They used the money to get them through school. At a certain time the group would start playing music then walking through town /alleys keeping the vibe upbeat. Did not see anyone not happy they decided to join.

The city had a tunnel system that was used to bypass the town . It was pretty impressive and another thing to note is there was no traffic lights in the historical town area . Everyone merged when needed.

Took a taxi about 1 1/2 hours from Guanajuato to a town called San Manual Allende and it was also worth the trip. Again out of the comfort zone by leaving town but didn’t get a bad vibe at all .

Back in Guanajuato. Local Food was flavorful at every place we ate. We typically like to try smaller places and talk with locals on where they recommend. These Carnitas were some of the best I’ve had.

We go to San Miguel de Allende just about every summer. My friends have a house there.

Another great city, we were told a lot of Americans retire here. I could see why!

Did get to see a few huge groups of SXS’s riding around in the hills on the way to this monument. Hard to tell in pictures but they are on the trails.

The real Mexico is, was and remains fantastic. It's just getting difficult to find. When you find a place where the locals are very proud of their town and really want to show it to you, you've probably come to the right place.

This was a hidden place in a castle that a group would torture people that did not believe in their religion. Kinda crazy way of thinking but I would have gave in and became as religious as can be before going through this lol

This was a mine that produced silver, fools gold, and other local stones. The workers would usually die a couple years after working here.

Haha, wasn’t expecting the mummies either. We did not get to visit any distillery on this trip. Wish I would have if I knew about it. We stayed a hotel downtown and a lot of the bars closed at 4am so the place was popping all night. I had my kids with me so it was a different vibe for us . Sounded Fun though
