I like most of them, but Viva Las Vegas, Blue Hawaii and this movie Clambake are the best.

Boats, bikinis, cars, motorcycles and music. Elvis knew how to make a movie.

Clambake. I love that boat Raw-Hide. Anyone know what hull that is?

Lou Brummett…Legendary Builder/Driver
Rawhide…Legendary Marathon Boat.
Oh how I would love to find and restore one with the Marathon deck and run it in the modern day enduro!
Lots of stories where this one and a few others are.
Heard once the deck mold is even still around.
Again, what I wouldn’t give to build one!

I really enjoy a lot of his movies but viva las vegas was not one of my favorites . The co star chick was hot but something about her really bugs me in the movie .

Don’t know exactly but makes sense for the mind set at the time.
Stronger the better would be the theme.
I have been involved in 2 boats that we have inlaid 1/8 th inch aluminum into the bottom.
Both wood boats, a crackerbox and hydroplane.

If you pay close attention the boat Elvis got that was wrecked was a short deck Mandela. The boat that was raced was a long deck marathon Mandella

The story I heard was the boat used in that scene was one that had been in a traffic accident in LA where it came off the trailer and hit a telephone pole.
According to the story, they actually filmed that scene in Brummett’s shop.

I don’t know…I’ve never had any issues with the “co star chick” (Ann Margaret) acting.
Check out the movie The Train Robbers. Stars the Duke and her.

We did the same at Rogers for this wealthy mexican. Don't remember where exactly the race is down there, or if they even run any longer, but it's all up stream in the rapids. Each boat we built lasted one race. The last 3 we inserted the mold 1/4 inch aluminum which was a bitch to do on a v bottom round keel hull. Boats still lasted only one race but they ran until the finish with that bottom. He sent us pictures of his compound and all his old race boats, Rogers and others, were stripped and stacked up like fire wood.

Always came to the shop with his 'guys', briefcase full of 100 dollar bills. Not sure what he did for a living but we had a pretty good idea. This was early to mid '80s, coke fueled times.

Those Mandella's are in my opinion the most beautiful flats ever made.

Damm I miss seeing all the bad azz flats on the river. With all the fucking wake board boats around now, totally understandable why no one takes theirs out very often.

Sucks.
Yeah different times for sure.
Even a respected guy on this forum calls his pontoon boat “Gorgeous”! Wow, what’s the performance boating world coming too!
We still get a few on the water there every chance we get.
Can’t let it die!

My old man's long deck marathon Mandella, the hull was laid up just prior to Louis's accident/death in Rawhide. Louis's son Carson, who was just a teenager at the time, and my dad finished glassing the deck afterwards. The boat sat inside as a bare hull for 40 something years until he finished rigging it about 10 years ago.

I love v drives, in particular day cruisers..

I am thinking about building one.

That said my pontoon boat is gorgeous.. lol. Out of all the boats I have ever owned (including my Schiada) I get more compliments on the toon then all of them combined.

This is one of the finest, if not 'the finest' Mandella ever. "Black and Blue" is a name that goes back more than six decades. Be sure and check it out if you happen to see it at one of the classic hot boat show & shines.
