There was a place on the Delta where ducks would congregate. Cruising through their hang out was dicey at best.
In other words “ duck” was said often.

20ish years ago my gf (now wife) my buddy and another friend were at Castaic in her (gf) parents 19' jet bote and I always (fucking around) yelled "duckies" and would steer toward them. I had done this a hundred times and every time the ducks ducked underwater... except this time, one dumb fucker took off, he ended up under the bimini with us flapping his ass off 🤣, his wings looked like hummingbird wings🤣, all 4 of us about shit our pants. The wife and I where ducking and barely looking over the dash while my friends were in the back contemplating bailing out the back 😳🤣. I let off the gas and he flew out the front. We sat there in the middle of the lake laughing for a good 15min.

Memories you can only get on a boat/bote.

Ouch

I hit a duck on the sea doo at the damn at lake Martinez near Yuma. It got fucking everywhere. I was about 60-65 when I hit it and it was all over the hull and me. Blood, guts, shit and feathers. I had to jump in once I stopped to give myself a bath

One night we took friends for a night ride to the Parker dam. We got to the float barrier and under the big wire that stretches across the river and cut the motor to float.

All of a sudden it sounded like a bunch of fish top hitting the water. Turns out the cormorants on the wire above were shitting on us. Made it out unscathed

Many years ago we were at Shasta Lake and we were chasing a duck and he just gave up and pooped and smashed into my chest doing about 55 . It was the first day of a week on a houseboat and the couple that was with me refused to ride in the boat again .

Years ago my gf, now wife and I were taking an early morning speed run to the marina, I saw a big area full of ducks and headed towards them. They took off, but I gassed it and started following 1 duck like I was flying a fighter jet. We were trailing this duck for a good 35/40 seconds when all of a sudden my gf hits my shoulder and I look over and she is gagging and her pretty perfect white teeth are now black!! Immediately stop and she says the duck shit and it landed in her mouth! She grabbed a water bottle from the cup holder and took a big swig, turns out it was straight vodka from the day before. She was so pissed off. Come to find out the duck shit while I was dog fighting him like maverick and it hit the deck of the boat and up over the windscreen and straight into her pretty little mouth. Needless to say that was a story we tell all the time around the camp fire. 14 years later we are still together and she yells at me every time we see a duck!

About 5 years ago I reached out and grabbed one of those damn mud hens out of mid air while I was driving, we were down by the reeds one morning, Been joking about it for years, never thought it would happen, usually they dive under water seconds before the bow hits them.
Shocked the hell out of me

If you see a duck on the water, I’d advise against trying to chase it. I was on Puget Sound a few years back and turned to avoid a couple of ducks. As I passed them, I could see the submerged log they were sitting on. That could have been a bad day for me and my passengers, but karma was in my favor.

Funny, if that was a jet boat everyone would be saying Goose at 70mph. However, an outboard with 260 horsepower and we all know it's damn true. Just funny.
