so the truck i bought has 8 lug direct bolt on wheels. they come with these dinky center caps and I want the "10 lug spiked look." The center caps already bolt to the wheel via threaded screw holes drilled into the rim.

The center caps I want attach to the rim via 10 lug holes and little nylon threaded "bolts". Rather than having all my rims drilled for 10 lug just to hold nylon studs, I want to affix a metal "ring" of sorts to the existing little threaded holes that hold the current center caps on, and then have the nylon studs in that metal ring hold the larger center caps on. The spikes on the new caps thread onto the nylon studs and hold the center cap tight. The real 8 lugs would sit behind the caps hidden.

I cant imagine a small alum plate with threaded nylon studs in it would be very difficult. But before I reinvent the wheel (no pun intended...) just checking if theres something out there already.

Is that a Dually or a Single wheel 3500?

Far easier to drill 10 holes in the wheels than drill and align 8 holes in a perfect circle and 10 more holes in another bigger circle centered around the first one. Then do that 4 times. If you drill the wheels you already have the 8 holes drilled and perfectly centered, you just need to figure out the distance to the 10 holes and measure off the existing. 10 times easier.

That's some Mad Max shit right there.
.
Been blinded by those spike studs on several semi's. All the angles on the stud combined with the wheel rotation reflects light from pretty much any source, like a strobe light.

You should spend that money on painting that front bumper! :D This truck will then look well versed in luxury.

We have a winner!! As correct as you are, I don't think the poorly painted truck pictured is his. If it were, this thread would not be needed and he would already have a solution.

my bumper is already painted. i used the pic to show the nylon inserts used to hold the center caps on that my rims currently dont have.

the wheels that are on there now are nice, American Force and they're fairly pricey. but they're a "direct bolt on" style meaning theres not a 8 lug to 10 lug adapter. I've also contacted them and they dont provide any option after the rim has been made. So the lugnuts and the rim have this like 4" gap between them. To ME it looks funky... so I have 2 options. Drill the 10 holes and switch to an adapter so I can run true 10 lugs. Or just switch center caps. I'd like to avoid adapters/spacers.

Also the caps that are on there right now are attached with some allen bolts and on turns they "creak" which is a fairly common problem and its LOUD and sounds like complete ass when I turn.

Ive found a site online that'll cut me an alum "ring" and I guess I'll just use a 10 lug template to drill the holes.

Didnt really guess I'd get so much hate over some center caps, especially on a boat site where people have 10k sunk into trailers with 20" rims for no reason other than a "look at me." Was just hoping to pick the brains of some talented fabricators/enginerds on here for ideas.

Go to a semi chrome shop and look at everything they have. I use to run spike covers on the lugs of my tow trucks and I know they offer them in different sizes. you may be able to find slip on spikes for the lugs you already have. Unless you really want the bigger diameter look. Personally I like to see more wheel and if I wanted a 20,22,24" wheel, Id prefer a direct bolt. The chrome shop I used was up in Castaic just for reference

If you want the 10 lug look, maybe sell the 8 lugs wheels, and pick up some 10 lug AF wheels w adapters? Guessing it wouldn't be too much more money. Putting fake 10 lug covers on your wheels a world-class ricer move ,... hence the negative comments you are getting.

Your truck but if it was me, I would either go real or not go. People are not giving you a hard time over wanting the ten lug look, they are giving you a hard time over the "autozone" method of trying to get it. I believe you would have gotten a totally different reaction if you had come out with a true conversion instead of a sticker package.

Hey, your truck, your choice.

I have been considering a 10 lug conversion on my truck but if I do it, I'm going to upgrade the axles and all. The real driver for me is I could then run late model 1.5 ton brakes instead of my "classics" that fit 16" rims. My real issue is that I currently have more truck and load than I have brake and that makes me nervous at times.

Good looking truck. With all the issues you should sell it. I will take it off our hands [emoji6][emoji23][emoji23]

My only suction would be either the adapter ring or drill like you said but personally I would do the ring and not really drill into the wheel risking the chance of weakening it in any way.

Funny thing is, I've seen TONS of pictures posted on here of members trucks with fake beadlocks. Hell, even a boat trailer or two with fake beadlock methods.

Isnt that the EXACT SAME THING???

Yeah man, truck looks great the way it is and don't think it's hate at all.

Majority of the people on RDP are some sort of gear heads and I like to think many are form follows function type of peeps; hence the reason they are all ribbing you so bad.

Plus we are a majority of guys on here; hence the reason you are getting ribbed so bad. :D

You could honestly say you helped a bunch of homless orphans on here and the next thing someone would say would be "did you play Catholic preist with them?". Just the way it is. :D

The funny thing is, I have had real Walker beadlocks on my vehicles for a long time. Sometimes now, I feel like a poser even with real ones, because every damn jeep fag at the mall has streetlocks now. pfff.

My biggest pet peeve with fake wheel stuff is the guys with replica Cobras that put the lug cover on that make them look like pin drives. Oh, and 8 to 10 lug conversions :p:D:eek:

Alright. I’ll say it. I like the truck. I do think the current wheels look really funky with the giant flat center and can see why you’d want to change to the “10 lug” caps. Yes, real 10 lugs would look better, but it’s your truck and money. I’d look into selling the current wheels and going with something with a little more style. Lately it seems like I’ve seen a lot of dually take offs for relatively cheap that would look much better than current setup.

The spiked center caps are the trigger for me.

I don't even know what word to use for that look...

I'll just go with, Amazing!

So I bought some new wheels and tires for my can am x3. There were used and I got a good deal on them. After checking them out I realized the oem lug nuts were not going to work and I needed some that would fit. I looked all over the internet and the spike ones did draw my attention. Black rims, the bead lock hardware I changed to chrome, so I thought black lugs with chrome spikes. This would follow what I have going on with the rest of the car. After thinking about it seemed the chrome spikes would just be over the top, and I didn't want anyone to kick or rub them and get hurt (it's thinking like this that confirms you are old). So that was settled no spikes for me.

My wife, four year old boy and I went to the street fair last week. We walked the entire thing, stopped and checked a bunch of stuff out. Talked with some old friends and made some new ones. Out of everything that was on display my boy was drawn to two things. First was the green Lambo, he was so quick that he got his little grimy paws on it before I could stop him, heck he almost make it inside. The second, and in his opinion, the greatest thing in the world, was the 10 lug spiked wheels on the Gator Wrap truck. If you guys noticed it, it had chrome 10 lug wheels, with spikes.

My boy stopped, mesmerized. He yelled for me to come over and take a look. He had to touch each one. Grabbing each one, then touching each one with the tip of his finger at the point. He turned to look at me with the most amazing look on his face and said,"Dad we need to get some of these". He was still talking about them yesterday, telling me he wanted some spike wheels for his hot wheels. I'm currently looking for some spike lug nuts. I'll have to figure out how to get 10 of them on each of my Can Am wheels.

10 lug pattern will look better on that wheel setup. Traditional style covers will look tits. Spike covers, ugh.
