Saw yesterday that a judge has allowed a class action lawsuit to move forward regarding the 8 spd shift issues on (dont qoute me) gm trucks ,suv s 2015- 2020?
I just sold my denali because it was starting to act up and i had heard some of the stories. So if you experienced this and you bought new you might look into it. Sorry no link I am technically challenged 🤷

Is that the same 8-speed transmission they put in Corvettes too? There are issues with that one as well

We had an issue with our Corvette. They did the recall twice and it fixed it. That recall was to flush the trans. Apparently they used bad fluid.

yep - the issue is that trans fluid is very hydroscopic, and the fluid the factory spec'd absorbed too much moisture and that made the torque converter shudder badly when the clutch was applied - which is frequent on the newer transmissions in most foward gears, in the pursuit of ultimate gas mileage....

Flushing the trans and running the updated fluid spec'd would fix it, unless it was ran for too-long with the converter chattering - then you need to change the converter, as the clutches become damaged and wont apply smoothly.

My reading went down the road of a bad designed detent that caused heavy hard downshifts and assorted issues. My buddies was doing it in his denali and they swapped to different fluid and it worked. He is amazed it worked based on some of the shit that was happening. So i now i have heard 2 different versions of whats really happening. Jury is still out.

They did the same fluid flush on my 19’ and about 5k miles later it acted up again. They replaced the transmission and at 65k miles it’s shuttering again.

Lol weird timing. I just bought a 15 Escalade with low miles and was searching for the thread a few months ago about thermostat bypasses and fluid and what not. I was in the fence buying it but took the leap.

Just today I ordered the t stat bypass thing, some atf additive and was looking at tunes to help the 8 speed hopefully live a long life.

Wonder what this means? Will this cover out of warranty vehicles? New transmissions for vehicles with issues?

Is the 6 speed part of the class action suit? It has well documented issues with root cause identified. I'd love to get some of my 5k back.

Yeah supposedly the issue was with GMs in house trans fluid. Apparently the fix was flush and fill with Mobil 1 Blue Label LV trans fluid from there on out.

Had a 16 High Country, at 80m miles trany really started acting up. Dealer put a new shift controller in it, located right after you drop the pan, then did the Mobil 1 fluid change. Traded it at 190m miles, still working correctly. I got charged but it was a lot quicker/cheaper than a new trany. The mechanic at the dealer told me everyone knows the problem, but GM wasn’t acknowledging - thanks Mary. My memory was that the Mobil 1 product was $50/qt and the dealer couldn’t keep it in stock - I had to wait a week to do the job for the fluid which will tell you how many were having trouble.

I wonder if you sold the truck, would you still qualify. Had a 19 that was terrible. I documented it here. I book marked the site and will look later.

My 2019 Trail Boss does exactly what the article say about the transmission. I only have 18,000 miles on it and less then the five years drive train warranty so I wasn't to worried yet. I figured I would sell it before I had any problems.

Sixty TSB's on one transmission?!?!?

😱😱😱

I wonder if GM files BK again, if the guberment will bail them out, again?

They never should have done it the first time.

They did the same fluid flush on my 19’ and about 5k miles later it acted up again. They replaced the transmission and at 65k miles it’s shuttering again.

When I was 17, and got my first real job in an auto parts store, I remember asking the owner one day about Trans-x...

Me: Does this stuff really work?

Him: Son, there ain't no such thing as a mechanic in a can.

It was a lesson I never forgot. 👍🏼

More than 30 days in the shop you have a big check coming or a new truck.
Patience and perseverance. Lose your head and your ass soon follows. Use the system.

May be why the Allison spec trans is offered with some gas engines for '24.
4 Allison's and no issues with us except a solenoid/flex plate bolts at 160K miles.
A few hundred bucks and a day at the dealer.

The new C8's use a Dual Clutch Automatic transmission. Pretty sure it's not the same.

Ho Lee Fuk...

I don't think even BMW has That many TSB's. 😱😱😱

Maybe you should think about trading it in?

The reason for that is the GT’s don’t get driven…
My good friend has a 2006 GT since new, I’ve never seen it out of the bubble…

Our C8 is a 2021 and we have had no issues (knock on wood) thankfully. But it does not get many miles either..

So you're saying the GT is like a Schiada?? 😁

I'm pretty sure TSB's aren't generated by miles driven. They are generated by defects found. And that's like one per day on the Vette you mentioned, for every two years its been around.

But you are correct, the GT is definitely more of a collectors car than a Vette. Better not take yours into the dealer for service, gawd knows how long it will be there to perform over 700 recalls on it. You may never see it again!:p

Gee, I wonder where all the Chebby fans are...

This thread sure did get quiet!

@Bigbore500r @Cdog etc, etc...

The thread is about GM truck/SUV 8 speed transmissions. Not a secretary's car....

Oh yeah, your right!

It IS about the POS transmission GM that GM pushed out for FIVE years, knowing it was a POS the first year they pushed it out!

Great topic! 🤣👍🏼🤣

Probably why this thread is SO quiet?

First rule of Fight Club and all that...

🤫😁

Just replaced the 6-speed on my 17 Chevy Express. The Vans have no love, no recalls. but torque converter failed metal through the transmission. Only 120,000 miles. My 2007 4l85 4 speed failed at 120,000 also. My 98 4l80 had over 245k was still going strong.

The last car I bought the former owner still had my mailing address and sent me a TSB they sent to him even though he sold the vehicle to me.

I hope the most recent former owner of my current Yukon does the same. I’m well out of warranty and up at 150k mileage but it would be nice to still be included (but I doubt it, probably first owner only).

I asked the Jasper rep if they offered the 8 speed tranny, as we've replaced a number of the 6 speeds. Jasper guy said something to the effect of "no way, G.M. can't even make them last, how would we manage that"
