GM 6.2 Exhaust Recommendations

Looking to get a little rumble out of my 6.2. I don't want it loud or a lot of drone, I just want my truck to sound like a truck. Has anyone modified their exhaust on a 6.2? I was thinking of trying a Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Muffler.

Any muffler shop recommendations in Orange County/ SGV/ IE?

My son put a Borla Atak with a side exit on his GMC 2018 Sierra 1500 and he likes it, it sound pretty damn mean on the outside. From the short amount of time I've spent inside it it sounds pretty good, no drone. I don't know how it sounds on the freeway - his last truck had Borla muffler, I don't know which one, but even though it didn't drone, it was the constant rumble that got annoying. Borla has 3 setups, Touring, S-Type, and Atak. Corsa is also a good choice if you only want to hear it when you get on it.

Stock my 6.2 has a pretty good rumble. But it's a 2010 with a tune, so maybe they are louder than newer ones.

My neighbors son has an Escalade that sounds really good. I need him to come visit his mom so I can ask him what he has on it.

Ya the older ones had a little rumble stock. Newer ones are quiet.

Both will drone without added resonators. And a right sized flow through muffler is better than a Flowmaster.

Go to the muffler shop, have them weld in a muffler (they will usually slide mufflers on to give you an idea of the sound) and resonator after it to cut out the drone.

Ace Auto Care in Santa Ana. Jose there is awesome and has been making race exhaust headers for decades.

The GM Performance exhaust is by Borla - I'm pretty sure it's the Touring one.

Same, sounds good...Not liking the K&N cold air kit I added after, has a bog sound if medium throttle, the exhaust sounds way better without it I think.

Good point! I plan to disable that. I disabled it on my 2008. MPG was pretty much the same and oil consumption went down.

I have 21 6.2 with the GM Performance ( Borla ) dealer installed, sounds awesome, no drone. They take the flapper out when they do it, which helps. Also did the dealer installed K & N. I can’t believe how strong it runs. 420HP before add one, thinking 30 hp add with both. Pretty stout for a factory p/u

I put a corsa sport on 6.0 denali sounds great with gm motorsport cold air intake great performance. The corsa touring gives a nice rumble but not as loud as the sport.

Our '09 Escalade still has factory exhaust that sounds great. Perfect for a family car. A little bit of rumble where you really hear when near by buy not obnoxiously loud.

Magnaflow or Gibson. If you saw how Borla builds parts you wouldn't want them. Customer service is horrible also. The hoops you have to jump through for warranty claims is ridiculous.

What year truck?

If its a 14-21 truck, it has AFM and its gonna sound like a helicopter when it goes into V4 mode. I have a '15 that came with a magnaflow and they deleted the factory flap in the exhaust.

Unless you leave the factory "flapper" in place. But that negates the whole point of getting a PERFORMANCE exhaust lol

From the factory the 2014+ trucks have it ahead of the stock muffler. Here is a pic you can see it just before the muffler, after the "bullet" cat and front hanger. That flap eliminates the V4 helicopter drone, but reduces flow. How much does it actually affect flow WOT? Who knows, not sure if anyone has done an "apples to apples" test of with and without the flap. Some guys have it added back in to kill the V4 sound

@Bigbore500r oh okay mine was removed then it is new from right after the cats on the headers back. im gonna get a RANGE to get rid of v4 all together. i want to throw a cam on mine but i tow alot and they are bad enough on gas already.
