This is just 20k miles on Hawk SuperDuty pads and Raybestos “medium duty” rotors, 33” tires on a 2015 Silverado 1500

I’ve had good wear/performance with this combo in the past on other trucks…but clearly, these wore terribly.
You can imagine the amount of brake dust, my wheels were always black.

How long did the factory OEM pads/rotors last?

70k
30k of that was on OEM size tires, and the remaining 40k was on 33’s

OEM I could get ABS activation in the dry if I stood on the pedal.

Had some Duralast Gold pads (don’t judge me bro 😂) on OEM rotors for about 5k miles, was unable to activate ABS at all in the dry. Poor pedal feel.

This setup I just took off would activate ABS a bit easier than OEM.

I always replace with OEM now. I’ve tried a bunch of different combinations and OEM pads and rotors last the longest and work about the best, even with 37s.

Wasn’t there a member that had ties to a brake pad company or something?
A friend of mine owns an independent Honda/Acura repair shop and he always used Akeobono Ceramic Pads. However, lately he started using OEM since they are cheaper than aftermarket even with his discount.

how do they work now?

So far they’re working awesome 😊

lbhsbz is who you’re thinking of 👍
He sent me some pads/rotors, I’ve bedded the pads but haven’t driven very much so I’ll have to hold my judgement.

But so far I’m very happy and braking performance is phenomenal.

OEM pads is not the same pads that come on the vehicle from the manufacturer.
"Akebono" pads are installed on most vehicles off the assembly line. This is why people always say the original pads last 60-80 k on average. But with other pads they don't last as long. Driving habits does play a role also also. Do a brake fluid flush. I test every vehicle I do brakes on. Every vehicle ends up with new brake fluid

Where did you learn that piece of information?...the Akebono rep? You couldn't be more wrong.

Akebono are most certainly not installed on most vehicles off the assembly line.

Toyota uses Advics (formerly Sumitomo)...an Akebono pad has never been factory installed on a Toyota.
Honda (as of late) is using Ate brake systems (and pads)...Used to be a mix of Akebono and Nissin
Most European vehicles are using Ate or TRW/ZF brake systems
GM uses some Akebono
Ford uses TRW or Bosch
Anything with brembo brakes could be a Textar, Pagid, Jurid, Ferodo,

Then there is Hitachi (formerly Tokico), and a handful of others.

Akebono got a in a lot of trouble with Chrysler a while back for moving production to a different location/climate without first seeking approval. Akebono is one of MANY oem manufacturers....and the stuff they sell in the aftermarket in Akebono boxes is simply a premium aftermarket material, just like you'd get from any other premium aftermarket supplier....I know because the Akebono Aftermarket VP of product management was my old boss after he left Akebono. Akebono rotors (aftermarket) are (or were) 100% sourced through Winhere, a large chinese supplier to the aftermarket.

They look the same, just not worn out and rusty.

I have a couple different lines of rotors, a fully Geomet coated (dull silver) or a grey painted hat/vanes. While I have about 10 different lines of pads available, I don't waste my time or my customer's with the mid grade/low end stuff, so for trucks, I have 2 pads. Our HD pads are a semi-met formula that performs in line with most OEM pads but with better wear characteristics at higher temps...a good fleet duty pad. For those that need more brake torque (bigger tires, added weight, etc..) we have our Truck Performance pad which is a very high torque low-met formula...significantly more aggressive than most OEM pads. You will get some rotor wear, but it's well worth it given the added performance.

Of course I didn’t take any of the new parts LOL

I’m putting some new caliper on sometime this week, I’ll take a pic of the pads and rotors while I’m doing it. My old caliber boots were cracking, cheap/easy to just slap new calipers on.

I’ll post up a review of the new brakes once I get the new calipers on and rack up a few miles.

Pics from yesterday when rotating my tires on my 2020 Denali HD CCSB. Truck has 64,100 miles on stock brakes.

I love my stock brakes on my 2020 but on my 2016 Denali HD, with the lift and 36x13.50s, I lost some stopping power. Swapped to Wilwood 6 piston kits front and back and that pig stopped on a dime. It was almost too much.

2011 Raptor.. I need to replace the rear brakes, and want to upgrade to something better. Has anyone used any of these aftermarket rotors and pads like Power Stop, or E1?

I drove my 2011 raptor nearly 180k miles. After the first round of pads/rotors It got Duralast from AZ all the way around...lifetime warranty and they did the job just fine. Unless you are doing some hard driving that's all I would do. If they wear out..pull them, take them in and walk out with new ones. I was HARD on that truck, towed a lot, overloaded bed payload almost weekly, it was in salt water launch ramps you name it. They worked just fine.

Powerstop is cheap...that's the only thing they've got going for them. They import direct from the factories in China and sell direct to the consumer. There higher end pads are pretty good, but there isn't anything special about their rotors, and they're calipers that they call an "upgrade" are just powdercoated OEM rebuilt or aftermarket new replacements. They are not "better"...but actually worse, since they've blasted off any plating that was protecting the casting, then masked off the critical surfaces and powdercoated....so now those critical surfaces....which need to stay in good shape, have no protection from rust, but they look cool because they're red I guess.

Need to be careful with reviews on brake parts. Plenty of reviews out there with people raving about the worst garbage. Nobody replaces their brakes because they're working fine and not worn out (except me). They replace them after 5-6 years of ignoring them, now the pads are worn out, slides are stuck solid, rotors worn, fluid old and contaminated, etc....When they replaces all that shit with new stuff that works, guess what....IT WORKS WAY BETTER!. Even if it's nowhere near as good as it should or could be, it's still better than it was.
