Why in the fuck all this is required to open and close a garage door?

Some are really complicated with intertwiring to all kinds of computer crap like cameras, lights, Bluetooth.

What kind of opener is it?

A piece of shit that doesn't work. Says "Genie" on the side.

I'll get into it tomorrow and look for burned shit. There's something red flashing somewhere....it buzzed for a few seconds and quit. lol.

I'll figure something out...I'm not paying for one of those new pieces of shit with a battery.

Frikkin California. I've been lucky keeping some 30 year old openers alive with gear kits from Amazon.

Maybe RDP express a non woke one from a free state?

Sink faucets? every one I clicked on said "can't ship to your address" meaning California.

Remember, it's for our own good.

My Garage door guy finished 1 for me last night. It was a Genie. He swapped In a capacitor first to check.

Ended up changing it out to a lift master. Swapped in new springs while he was there. $1000 customers tenants are happy.

It is a logic board. Mostly used for programming its opening and closing limits, in addition to motor overload contact safety (i.e. running into something or someone then bouncing back open) Used for dialing up and down motor sensitivity.

Yeah that red blinking light may be due to a motor overload. Check for broken springs, or toasted capacitor. Theyre usually replaceable on the older units.

I LOVE mine...

Power was off the other day, and it still worked! I forgot it had a battery in it!

🤣

It also has an app for my phone. Works great, and I can check from anywhere, if the door is open or closed, and open or closed it if needed.

But to answer your question...

It's for the rolling code technology, so that strangers can't open Your garage door.

Too bad GM can't figure this simple technology out. 😊

Baller. I had to pull the string on mine and do it manually.

I just had to replace both of my openers; the replacement was right at $1300 for both Marantec units. They are quiet at least. The Lift Masters were noisy but lasted close to 20 years 🤙

I replaced mine about three months ago was a Genie interweb said capacitor ordered on Scamszon and guess what no bueno. All that circuitry is there to accommodate the lower voltage and torsion controls and safety interlock.

You may want to increase the torsion or whatever it’s called usually a screw you can turn to make it pull or lift stronger never knew mine had it did it a few times then it gave out.

I bought a chamberlain belt unit has phone app and is much quieter than last one.

Either way good luck

If you have other access to the garage, not sure why you would need the dam battery backup.

Pretty sure it all started due to the fires in malibu (Woolsey fire?) when some people were too stupid or otherwise unable to pull the red cord and manually open the door to evacuate and died.....so now we have battery openers.

Don’t shoot the messages but I think the battery backup came into law during the Paradise fire when a elderly lady couldn’t get out of her garage due to the electricity being off and she couldn’t reach the rope latch. 😳

It was the Camp fire in Paradise, people burned in their cars in the garage because the door didn't open. Pull the cord dipshits and if you took it off or the rope breaks drive through the door. People are fukin stupid.

Im not sure if its stupid or unable to physically pull the cord. I think it was an elderly couple who died because they couldn’t get their car out.
Not saying I agree with overreaction just saying what I think brought all this on.
That said. They probably should have left sooner but I do t have all the facts. 🤷

Interesting. For some reason I was thinking it was started when that criminal got stuck in the garage and sued the homeowner for not being able to get out.

works fine this morning...
How old is it?
Mine would not work from time to time. I had changed the capacitor and it eventually stopped working completely. Replaced it with a Chamberlain and haven’t had a problem, 🤞🏻, in 3 years. Sometimes, it’s worth the time and effort to just replace something.
Good luck.

To be fair, I couldn't open mine this morning either...even though the cord was pulled. I added a short piece of angle aluminum to the top of the door with a screw and a piece of hose over it that flips a light switch when the door opens up all the way to turn on lights I have mounted on the garage door (I have a retractable cord going to the door lights)....evidently when you're lifting the door and not pulling on the top section, the 1/8" of clearance between the end of the angle and the spring axle is insufficient. lol.

Red and black go to the motor. Twistered red/green/black is probably the manual up down switch on the wall or a remote light. White/Black is 115/120V single phase. Green is ground/Chassis ground
IMG_0277.jpeg

If I was a betting man, I’d put money on the relay that supplies power to the motor ( that's stamped “made in China”) 😉

There appears to be a few relays on the board. Some may not be used in all applications.

Murphy’s 4th law.

Did you mean to put this in the Superbowl thread, this is what the chiefs are thinking right now 🤣
