So my kids play a game called Apex Legends and they use my home computer. Quite frankly, I’m not on it often but I don’t want it to crash as it’s got important docs on it. It’s nothing high powered just an HP all in one.

So I’m thinking some kind of gaming computer for the kids. I don’t need anything crazy as they’re not going to get into gaming.

Anybody’s kid move out and need to get rid? Anybody build these here?

What’s your take?

What’s your budget? I have one and know a decent amount but @Bpracing1127 could give way better advice than me.

I don’t think I need much. It’s not like they’re competing against any “athletes”. It’s just a fun game that overheats a normal desktop. I see some for $2,000 but I don’t need a crazy processor. Is there something that could be had for a couple hundred? Just to get them off the desktop?

This is definitely not my forte.

Something along these lines is what I would go for.

I’ve personally never bought a PC from Costco but with their return policy you can’t go wrong.

Well...

Every game will have minimum requirements. And they will normally give you preferred requirements as well.

For me, it would be Really fun to head over to Microcenter and build the thing myself, but this always costs more money, cause you always go...

But wait, how much is that super cool case? And those LED fans? And you get carried away! 🤣

It cheaper and easier to just buy a pre made machine, and then spend the extra money on good monitors, and a quality gaming keyboard and mouse.

Buying em dirt bikes, might be cheaper as well. 😉

Some coworkers and I played our fair share of Apex. Enough to where I built my own PC and my buddies bought custom built ones.

Got tired of it after getting our asses kicked by kids when we just wanted to relax after work😂.

Can’t go wrong with Costco. You’re likely to spend $1,000-$1,500 with PC and monitor. Anything in that range will run most of today’s games at moderate settings with a 1080 resolution/60hz-120hz monitor. And if the kids start acting up, you got 90 days to return.

Found this pretty easily. Is this the game we are talking about?

That’s the way it usually happens. I don’t want my kids to get that good. That means they play it too much.

build your own, its super easy. and you can use online tools to help you pick the components that work together. you are right you dont need anything super high end. you can buy used parts but be cautious here. Speaking of that i have a GPU that will play todays games but at a smoking deal. Let me know if you are interested.

use https://pcpartpicker.com/ to help with making sure all components play nice with each other.

you can get carried away but having a nice home-built pc will be awesome.

my gpu is a zotac 1070 for sale, great shape and works awesome. PM for price

for reference my PC is about 2k plus 2k in monitors.
gpu 3080ti
cpu ryzen 7 3700 (weakest part of my system) (but still performs very well. even for todays standards)
ram 64gb of ram
4tb of SSD
plus all the lights and fans.
2 4k 240hz monitors

Last month just bought the grandson this for $1200. I already have a Dell account so interest free 12 months payments are great He loves it but he’s about to lose it for a week if he doesn’t clean his room 😀

I have always built our computers for years. It is not hard at all. I used to purchase from Fry’s back in the day. I am sure that there are other retailers that have taken their place. I am sure one of the resident games can lead in the right direction. Lastly, our son’s work requires big processor/video capability. He built the first couple of computers for his work and gaming. It is not that hard and you get to select only what you need if you can resist the LED and other cool features. He now is getting into the simulator gaming. Big multiple screens, counsel, chair force feed back steering and much more. He is hooked on flying at this point.

Oh and btw as he was frowning up we limited him and his gaming time to a minimum during the week and a few hours on the weekend. At this point in his life it is his escape and fun. Like everything in life it is about balance. 👍

Building computers is fun. I've built a system for my son. Just a starter system that would run most games 1080p @ about 80 frames. Couple of Xmas ago upgraded graphics card and cpu. Now it runs 1440p games 100 frames. Used the old parts and rebuilt the first system for my daughter that pretty much just plays Roblox. With all that said if he is just playing casually just buy him a ps5. Easier to run and less likely to crash. If he is determined and wants a pc in my opinion I would look on Facebook market place and find a system that meets the recommended requirements for Apex. But could be inheriting someone's issues. Good luck

Stay away from alienware,

Meta are built here by veterans. Going a bit overboard at the start is a good idea.

Amd ryzen 9s are the best bang for the buck.
Lots of ram.
4060 card at the minimum

My son just built one himself for about $1000. I know nothing about them, but I could get him to walk you through.

Kid needs to clean his fuking room.

I picked this up to use with my simulator. Buddy that builds computers for gaming said it was a smoking deal and hard to beat for the price.

Its not fancy but works great for what i need. I'm not a gamer but it runs the racing simulator perfectly.

Video card is gonna be key

This is THE MOST important thing right here...

You want to build a system around the recommended (or better) video card requirement.

A true gaming computer will have a SSD for the operating system and an additional mechanical drive to install the actual games on.

It's simple, but then again, it's not.

And you want your (dual curved) monitors to be 4k, with a Very high refresh rate.

I'm telling you...

A dirt bike will be a lot cheaper, if you want to do this right! 😁
