Anyone ever brought one of these plans? Need to change one of the beds to an adult bunk bed in Havasu. Always short a bed and I end up on the uncomfortable sofa sleeper. There are a lot of plans out there, so wondering if any one has brought one? Or even made their own plan? Need it to be solid. Buying a good one that looks solid is 750+ plus putting it together takes a lot of time. Something like this.

Just an FYI, you can buy them ready-made for cheaper than you can build them.

I haven't found one ready made that looks like it won't break with an adult or two or be frustrating to build like Ikea for less than 750. Can you post one maybe I missed it. Have seen DIY plans that say total cost is under $200. Have About $300 in Home Depot gift cards. Just seeing if anyone had used a plan that they can recommend.

Yeah that total cost is not even close.

Ime it's 2-5x the cost they say it is.

I have a couple plans I can email you, I am not sure what tools you have or of you need a cut list.

We have a queen/queen bunk bed at the river...I think the plans are at the river too. I don’t think we have had adults up top yet, as there isn’t much room between it and the ceiling. You can fit, just don’t sit up too quickly. Lol

We will be there this weekend, and I can send you the plans then if you want.

There was a twin over full set at Costco recently that looked very nice, but I believe it was around the $700ish range like you said.

Shit, it wouldn't be too hard to do a built in bed yourself anchored to the wall with some nice posts. Depending on the style of your decor there would be plenty of ways to finish it. I would suggest spending the slightly more money and just going with a Queen over Queen and either build, or buy one that keeps the bottom bed frame as close to the ground as possible to allow for better head room for the top bed.

Yeah any plans would be helpful. Have a lot of tools at the Havasu house. Thank you

That would be great! thanks! haha yeah, hitting your head could be a problem. Maybe I'll lower the bottom bed a bit. Do you remember your costs at all?

We bought the bed off of craigslist, and they gave us the instructions with the bed.

So, no idea really.

I saw that one at Costco! That is how this idea of bunk beds in Havasu started. I tried to go back and couldn't find it. Yeah definitely going to build or buy one that has a lower bottom bed. Looking for the ladder at the end too to save save.

Here is the current set up. Don't have any wide shots of the house currently, but there is another 5 or so feet in front of the beds. Looking to make the right side the bunk beds as the other side has a large window.

Haha, I'm thinking a side rail for safety. Way too many drunken nights to not have someone fall over.

That is awesome! Just don't think there is any space for it. :(
Last September I ended up sleeping on the boat. The garage has an A/C in it. It was better than the sofa sleeper! Maybe if there was a legit sofa sleeper, this would be solved!

Where are you located? I have a full over queen in my boys room that my wife wants to change out. It’s solid enough for adults top and bottom with a 3/4 railing on the top. All solid wood 4x4 posts and 2x4 frame. We’re in Oceanside if you’re interested.

Funny I just googled this last night. There are a bunch of ideas but nothing that is efficient or cool at the same time. Looking for a space in the hall or half size of a bedroom. Just had a thought maybe take an area that could become a large walk in closet if the bunk s[ace is not needed in the home. This is the best use of space that I found. It would be for kids and teen or maxing out a vacation rental.

we have two sets of this at our river house. We have matching pull out trundle beds under neath them. The mattresses are cheap ass, but they are the best beds in the house and they are indestructible. kid tested. https://www.armysurplusworld.com/gi-surplus/bunk-beds

The ones we have are the Militarty style bunks. we didn't pay that price for them thought. I think we found them for $100 each.

Wow! That is pretty cool. I googled some of the luxury adult styles and people get very creative with the bunk beds. Definitely need tall ceilings for that!

Unfortunately the river house doesn’t have much room. You walk in and there is the living room followed by the kitchen. Hallway to the rooms and bathroom and that’s it. The backyard is huge though. Maybe whenever a pool is added, a pool house can be added, but that’s spending a lot of money for one extra bed. :)

If you're hand you can find plans online - Google it and also check Pinterest - people post all kinds of ideas and DIY stuff on there. You can do it in a variety of styles - contemporary, rustic, ranch house, etc. All it takes is some ideas, wood and hardware, tools and your time.

Check this out for more info and plans and ideas:

I just built a high-end upholstered headboard and frame and it turned out great. Used an expensive design from a quality furniture store in Scottsdale and saved over $2,000 by building it myself.

I did the IKEA thing last year and did a bunk bed with a trundle. They don’t have any with queen setups though.

Some of the IKEA beds are crap and some are pretty solid. I got a metal frame bunk that is pretty solid. So far so good.
