Tell me about it. Tough to adjust to being the last one to eat. Some weeks the checks don't come in and receivables grow. Sorry kids we can't afford pitching lessons this week. Many days I want to quit and go find a guaranteed check each week, but that's just not me. At some point all of the stress, sleepless nights and sacrifice will pay off.

I think there are multiple definitions of hustle though that could be applied to all aspects of life.

Are you doing the restoration deal full time? I guess I had it in my head you were still doing mortgage stuff and the restoration deal was a second gig.

I still do mortgages but this is taking most of my time these days. A lot more work than originally planned but that's how things go. I want every aspect of our customer experience to be flawless and I want to be an expert in the field. With that comes more moving parts. Not just running a business but teaching myself a whole new career.

On the radio this morning on the way to Huntington Beach job. They said it takes $280K to live comfortably in So Cal and $613K to live well off.

$180K a year is scraping by unless you are dual income or bought your House 15+ years ago.
How much do I need no make to afford a Skater? It’s going to be more than $613k a year I’m sure.

No, I don't think it's a good thing. Maybe that is part of the problem why your union is slow and guys are sitting on the bench while non union shops are busy?

I never understood the union mindset. Worked with union guys that all they could dream about was getting credits or whatever it is then they make more money and always treated other union guys that ranked below them like fucking shit. Investing time into a position that gets capped doesn't make sense to me and you're still dependent on someone finding work for you and still have to work 40 hours a week, when work is available. Seems like there's to many rules and handcuffs.

Add into the fact that MOST unions really want to pigeon hole the members into one particular skill set and not allow them to do more than that one thing and as well all know, when things slow down, being highly skilled in 1 thing and not having much experience in others really limits your marketability and results in less money when needed the most.

Union isn’t for everyone for sure but there’s a ton of misinformation in your post

Uhh I started my career as a drywall framer. I’m now a cwi. I have so many certs it’s ridiculous. It’s available to all the members. Whether or not you’re willing to give up your Saturdays to obtain those certs is a different story. You will get out of it what you put into it.

I know there are people programmed to work for a union and some people just aren't. The mis information I posted was what I observed and heard from union employees.

I didnt say all, I said most. And even then, I think it comes down the local and their leadership as well.

I can tell you, it would be VERY difficult, if at all possible, to gain the varying experience I have in the HVAC trade in the union. I can that that with the upmost confidence after talking to many people at the new job that have been in the different unions we have here.

Our union offers journeyman classes to keep up with alll of the different skills in our trade.

Here’s all the certs I have. Not a dime out of pocket to get any of these. They all make me more employable. The wfed classes are me going after my bachelors degree from Penn state. All free. No one is trying to pigeon hole me they encourage my growth

There's perceived hustle by those who endorse pay checks and the actual hustle/pressure of employing people and having them and their families depend on your signature on the front of a paycheck. If you know you know and if you think you do you don't.

Ok, then take all of that and risk it by starting/running your own business hire/employ people with mortgages and mouths to feed and then you'll understand.
If I wanted to do that I would. Everyone has choices in life. I’m happy right where I am. If you don’t like it find a union job 😜

Hustle is hustle there’s no 2 different definitions. A company owner has to hustle and so does a union employee. It’s really that simple. If an owner doesn’t hustle the company fails. If a union employee doesn’t hustle he sits at home with no pay check. Hustle is hustle

You’re proving the point of the difference between signing the front and back of the check.

Edit. A guy can work 16 hour days 40 weeks straight. As long as he hustles and does what he’s paid to do then he’s “succeeded” and done what was expected of him.

Boss is on the hook for 20 of those guy’s paychecks (every week I believe in the union) plus… overhead, customer relations, business development, finding new work, estimating and signing contracts, etc etc etc.

Like I said both have earned their respect but “hustling” can mean a lot of things.

Vic I think where you might be missing some points in allot of these posts is you are speaking of your experience with your union.

As you know there are many unions and they are all very different.

I have experience with the grocery union
Sheet metal union
Lineman union

Others have experience from different trades as well. What you may not agree to understand is that many unions are not providing the experience you have.

Case in point. My dad got laid off as a union tin knocker was on the list for 6 months. During this same time frame the same union hounded me constantly telling me to join and there is plenty of work. Two faced to say the least.

Grocery union. Nothing like going on strike for weeks to land that .10hr raise. Great job cocsuckers.

Linemen union desperately wants the planning group to join. Making bold face lies the whole way. Promising remote work, flex schedules and the loss of bonuses. Last I checked you can’t promise anything until there is an agreement which comes way after the vote. In my case if we went union I would likely take a pay wash but be in office 5 days a week plus the commute cost. To get what? The same damn pay.

Just wanted to point out your perfect experience is not the typical experience.

There is a difference hustle to find the work, bid the work, win the bid pay the subs, the materials, overhead and staff is much different than lacing up boots and strapping on bags for 60hrs a week. Putting in hours is not hustle it’s hard work.

The guy who issues the paycheck is very different than the guy who cashes the check. Working for my dad’s company taught me that. Employees get paid every week. Employers get paid when there is money to spare.

I am in IT, and I could care less about Certs. They mean nothing to us. Everyone I have hired with a million certs are worthless and all they want to do is keep getting more certificates. 😂

Looks to be different in the Union.
