I searched the boards here a little before asking.

The house this past weekend looked like over grown jungle. We are new to strictly desert/rock landscapes. The little bit of rock we have in SoCal is managable.

What is the going census on seasonal weed control in Havasu?

I saw some posts for Havasu Pest Control, coming and spraying twice a year.

We saw a killer Rambo blow torch at Lowes, but after torching what do you put down to keep them from coming back?

Anybody use the granular stuff from the box stores?

This being our first season in the new house we tried weed control ourselves, back breaking work. The big stuff was manually pulled up/out, we "killed" a gallon bottle of Round Up, and Ortho, a bag of granular spread/fertilizer, and also tried a DIY recipe that used up 6 gallons of vinegar and 4 bags of epsom salt. Everything looks dead for now, but not worth the effort if next month everything has grown back. Thanks.

This is who I use. I don't even call. They just come out every 6 months.

Most pest control companies in Havasu offer to spray pre-emergence for weed control.

You can also buy chemicals on-line and DIY.

I do it twice a year myself, costs about $50 for the ortho chemical at Walmart and takes about three beers.

If you already have serious growth you may have to burn to get ahead of it then copay chemicals to keep it from coming back.

When do you typically have them (pest control) come and spray? Summer-Winter, or Spring-Fall?

It all depends when it rains - no rain no weeds. After a few repeated rains the stuff germinates and up they come. Most all the brands like roundup are just glyphosate. Find the cheapest one with the highest content.

Lowes has a good one for half the price of round up and its the same stuff. Get a 2 gallon sprayer and just hit them. In 7-10 days they are gone. Best to get them while they are small, so if you aren't there often enough then go the service route.

You can also have them spray the entire yard with Pre-emergent. this keeps them from germinating in the first place.

Are we talking weeds here or bugs? Is the Havasu pest control a dual purpose company? Weeds and bugs?

They do weeds and bugs. I called them last week for my weeds but they are backed up three weeks. They did sell me some weed killer like round up that is supposed to be better.

Surf land does work well, bet they forgot to mention it stains things orange. :rolleyes

Dimension is the best I've used, it's clear and it's also the most expensive. Pendemethelum (Pre-M / Pendulum) is usually the cheapest but it will stain things yellow. If it's just dirt or common gravel then the staining will wear off in a few weeks, if you have something that you want to remain the color it is like a driveway or side walk then you need to be careful or use Dimension.

Once you have control then it just a mater of putting it out at the right times, different weeds germinate at different times and you put it out a little in advance of that time for the best control.

Havasu Pest comes to my house usually in June and Dec. My front yard is in my avatar which is about normal size. My back yard is maybe 3 times as big.

Rock salt... Make it look like it snowed, nothing will grow for years.

I use Havasu Pest Control. I'm a cheapass but spending $150 every 6 months is well worth it to me to see zero weeds. I called them for bugs once when I saw ants in the house. I haven't seen them since. Fock pulling weeds and torching. :D
