This is going to lead to a boat load of lawsuits… some people bought the Ford, because it could “Tow” their RV. Now it cant…

This will not end well.

It’s true.
Ford sent out a calculator last week that gave you the ratings for your specific vehicle by vin.

Mine didn’t change. My guess that’s because I ordered mine with the 10k gvwr de-rate.

I’m still 16,900 fifth wheel. 15k bumper. With 2800 pay load. Rear axle is 6,000 something and front is 5,000 per my door sticker.

Rumor has it that new door stickers are coming out. So maybe the de-rate my axle capacity.

Wonder if they changed the protocol of how it’s rated. They did that first around 2014. They had to do the Davis ram run on a 100 deg day uphill to hit the rating. Dodge was always using then sae adopted it as a standard and everyone else scrambled to rate at the standard and most had to derate

So has Ford or Ram officially de-rated their trucks? I can’t find anything online with an official announcement. I see their online calculations tool is not working as intended but what do we Have officially

"Occupant(s)" at 300 pounds? In America that would be the driver only!

It reminds me of old FAA ratings for passengers at 150 pounds each... maybe pre teens!

You can change it to whatever you want. It’s just a default calm down.

Perhaps this has something to do with capping the gross combined weight rating at 26k which is also the cap for a class C drivers license and not actually a reflection of a change in testing or actual towing capacity?

do you have to login? i cant find the towing calc anywhere
Use the link I supplied from the Tremor forum. If you have Ford pass all you have to do is login and it will populate your vin and ratings. It’s all the way to the bottom.

I'd be shocked if they don't have a 'specifications and ratings subject to change' statement in their sales contract fine print. Same for the mpg ratings.

Nothing for my '18 Raptor shows up via that link, not that it's noted for it's tow ratings. 😁

Oh I would bet a Speed car delivery date on it 🤣

This is a good example of buy a bit more than you need.

Admittedly I went kinda shady ordering my truck.
By optioning the 10k gvwr de rate I lowered my trucks capacity.
But by ordering the 4:30 gears I essentially have a F350 with F250 badges.
So I have the capability just not the sticker to prove it lol.
Depending on where you live this makes a difference on registration and insurance.

But dot and motor carrier only look at the door stamp and see what it’s rated for when built. So I can’t see anyone changing the stamp inside the door.

I see a change in that process coming soon. Grab your taser/bar code reader and walls, you have full history on the entire rig from day one. Kinda like they do with your DL.

I was also wondering this…but it looks like the SAE towing protocol hasn’t changed since 2020.

The towing police never believed in those ratings anyway 😂😂😂😂.

Ram did the same thing last week.

I never could understand the Ram's 2500 model's tow rating difference between my 2018 vrs the 2019 and up newly restyled but new series Cummins would tow nearly 3k more in weight. My truck being 17,480 rated and 2019-2023 2500 towing 20K rated. Same frame, same axles, same brakes.

Cheesy Stellantis shit would be my take.

Now all those newer years set back to my original tow rating and I feel a little better buying a leftover.

I have the same thought on the new Fords that magically went from 32k max tow just a few years ago to 40k pounds now. Chassis is exactly the same. Brakes are the same. It just makes more power and has a 10 speed trans.

I've had trailer brakes go out a few times. 22.000 lbs back there the truck better be able to stop it on its own.

Not Fords only problem:

Also the Ford 10 speeds are defaulting to 3 gear and no fix yet reported.

All the truck brands have mulligans. I guess you chose what mulligans ya want when ya buy one. We've had headaches with the GMC Dually but dealers have finally figured it out and are willingly fixing them in a few hours,,, for now.

My BIL works on the Ford big truck line 600's through 750's. He paints them manually as there is not currently a robot sprayer to handle all the different configurations Ford sells.

Last week he was on a family group call and said he's furloughed again for the next 3 weeks. No gas engines which surprisingly most are, said they are all going to dealers for warranty. So I looked into this lifter issue and it seems about 30-50k miles many lifter and cam failures.

Another Ford ouch.

More reasons why Ford's stock just never gains long term.

GM is set to replace Ford in most trucks sold. That in spite of the fact that the Allison Branded Trans in GM is also a Ford trans as that 10 spd was co-designed by both GM and Ford paying Allison for their logo on the GM's.

I’m wondering if adding zink to the oils would help with current owners.??? Reminds me of what happens when non roller motors run without zink additives.

Its real… bldrinker shared he was aware of it….
Yes, Dodge has the same issue.

But the lowly Chevy/GMCs that where not rated as high as the Ford/Dodges… are not having the problem… The question is will they?

The big three have Definitely been putting up some outrageous towing numbers lately.

Truthfully, very hard to believe!!!

Around 30klb combined weight ratings???

Yeah right.

You are correct. We just have to wait and see.

Edit: Maybe @pronstar has some inside info on this? 🤷‍♂️

It would be great for the engine itself, but not so great for your converter and O2 sensors. 😕

Could be wrong but correct me if so. That was the 8L90 I think.
Damfino.

Fords version had issues, the GM version was ok.

We ran a pole in FB on who has lifter issues. Out of a couple hundred owners 2 guys had issues.

It’s not as common as people think.

Again everything has issues.

That’s what they said about the rocketing spark plugs.

You are fucked with that type of cam and lifter failure. You are running trash through the entire engine.

I thought I saw a video last week that LS lifters are nearly identical and may even drop in…. could be wrong.

Kinda like F150’s having the same tow rating as 3/4tons damn near.

I don’t believe any ratings. I use the ole reliable method. If your butthole is puckering you are overloaded.

You guys should of seen the huge cabin cruiser fish tailing I passed today. Was being pulled with a uhaul van🤣

14,000 lbs is damn near 20,000 lbs?

The fastest car and the best tow vehicle are both always rentals :)

That's one percent. Pretty sure that's gonna end up being a way too huge number in the end.

And, these engines just came out!!! 😱

No bueno. 😔

Didn't big 3 trucks increase tow rating by using aluminum beds, doors etc. ?
