Was thinking the same thing , motorhomes tooWith the price of gas, there may be a lot of “accidental “ boat fires this year.
A couple $$$ extra for gas to burn up a 50K+ boat. With the price of gas, there may be a lot of “accidental “ boat fires this year.
I use the same blower routine. Batteries and blower get switched on while we load up on the beach before heading anywhere. Hatch gets opened with the blower running for my initial start at the ramp. And blower running in any no wake area. I’ve got a buddy who runs his even while driving but that’s a bit much for me.Worst thing you can face is fire. I just bought two new 5B's this weekend as I only had an extinguisher in the engine compartment that I discovered wasnt even wired to anything. I assume it might trigger if there's a fire but I figured a couple handhelds on hand wouldnt be a bad idea.
Most cases fire is the result of some failure of a hose or fitting that releases fuel into the bilge that then ignites when the engine is started. Running the blower for at least 4 minutes before starting is supposed to be what you do but so many people I know never use the blower. For me its on before I start, stays on anytime I'm off plane and the last thing I shut off when I shut the engine down.
Definitely sucks that this happened. I remember a boat fire on Castaic years ago, my father in our family jet joined a few other jets in making passes and roosting the fire out. They could have used that here.
With the price of used boats, there's really no need for jewish lightning. Yet...With the price of gas, there may be a lot of “accidental “ boat fires this year.
