My thread and questions on F3 has let me to more questions about F2..... Seems like there is a lot of knowledge here and all help/info is appreciated.

-Who makes new F2 boats? I can't find info on Hallet or Nordic's website but it seems like they're making new ones.

-Where can one find used ones? I've scoured the internet and only found the Bernico #45 listed by Prime on the nwsra.net site.

-What makes an F2 boat competitive? Hull type? Lighweight layup? What is the best engine package?

-How are they to drive? Do they make good pleasure boats in addition to race boats?

Thanks again for all the info.

the 81 boat will be up for sale also there might be a connelly with a merc 225 it set up as a play boat/ trainer boat super clean.

Competitive f2 boat would be light lay up carbon kevar ect, either 2.5 or the3.2 stroker motor. needs to be capabile of 80ish with a skier. ita a lot of time to get a f2 boat set up exactly right weight is huge CG so on. as far a drivabilite like any out board there a hand full as speed.

the connelly i ski behind isnt the fastest boat... probably the slowest but consistance is key.

if you are thinking of ski racing i would sugeast the F3 class i think it would be fun and still very afordable.

Nordic does make a couple models currently used in F2. They have the 20' Nordic/Cyclone, and the Nordic 21SR. The 20' is faster, the 21SR is better in rough water and a better multipurpose boat. I am not sure if Hallett still would make their F2 model or not as I only know of 3 of them ever made. Schiada made one, then turned it into an outdrive. Those are the only US manufacturers right now for the F2 boats.

The 20' Cyclone/Nordics are the only ones that typically aren't set up to have a back seat and may not make as good of a social boat. It could be done, just none of them are set up that way. Most of the other boats are set up with back seats for use when not racing.

If you look through the US Open picture threads, here are some boats to take a look at. Most of them run the Merc 300hp Optimax. Some are running the 2.5's.

Boat #10 (RED, 20' Cyclone/Nordic)
Boat # 81 (Yellow, 20' Cyclone/Nordic)
Boat # 373 (Yellow and Black, 20' Cyclone/Nordic
Boat # 71 (White, 20' Cyclone/Nordic)

Boat #289 (White, Green, Yellow, 21' Nordic SR, has back seat)
Boat #787 (Yellow, Blue, has a 225hp Merc, fully upholstered)

Boat # 45 (Bernico, has back seat, still can be used as a social boat)
Boat # 57 (Bernico, has back seat, still can be used as a social boat)

Boat #110 (Red, Hallett F2, has back seat, can still be used as a social boat)
Boat # 19 (Red, Hallett F2, has a back seat, can still be used as a social boat)

Boat #22 (Red, 21' Force)
Boat # 627 (Red, 21' Force)

I asked in the other thread but maybe you'll know - is anyone currently racing or planning on racing F3? I read through all the rules changes/meeting notes/results and only found in the '07 rules changes

NEW CLASSES
: F3 Outboard (160 HP) has been added to the Mini Marathon. This will be a Men
and Women’s class combined. Additionally, a 60 MPH Class has been added to the Mini

Marathon as well. This will monitored based upon total time and distance of the race.

And thanks for all the info!

Nordic makes both a 20 and 21 F2. The 20 is the same mold as Cyclone boats Australia still makes. Ross brought the mold over with him after selling the company in Australia. These are typically lighter and the boat it self is smaller, less free board, different bottom, and can run great with a 2.5 (Nordic's Racing's 373 boat) even though most are equipped with the 300 optimax, like the 81 boat. These things FLY. Only one has been made over here so far.

The 21 is the same mold as the new inboards. Ours was the first one made as an outboard. It was built for social / training use, but is an awesome Marathon Boat. It has a removable seat / wind damper that we switch out for racing or playing. We went with the 21 as we live by the ocean, and primarily ski out of Marina Del Rey and Redondo Beach. Its a medium lay up with a mix of foam, fiber glass, and carbon fiber. They can make them as light or heavy as you want, but we wanted something that could handle the ocean on a regular basis. With out a skier its reached speeds around 85. With a skier, We've only got 77. Which is pretty much fine for everywhere but Parker, and circle races where you have to get on plane as fast as possible for the hole shots. The biggest problem we have has is dialing it in, motor heights, props, ect... From what I've been told all the 21's run around the same between 77 and 80 with a skier. So far only 3 have been made for racing. Our's, Nordic's 737 boat, and the Robertson's Thunderbird in AU. The other two have been play boats. One of Which Ross took back to Australia with a 350 Verado. (Too bad we can't race with those.)

Hallett still makes the F2 but I've been told they are changing it. It's original mold was based off an old Cyclone with a different deck. Carl Johnson is building a New one that supposedly will have an improved bottom. It should be ready next year.

Schiada attempted with the splice off of a Connely (mirage) but switched it into an inboard.

Other than that you pretty much gotta go off shore for one as of right now. Bernico, Force, Lab, Cyclone Great Brittan, Connely, Cylcone Au. They all make them. Getting them over here seems to be the problem.

Especially with the pounding the US Dollar has been taking!

Thanks for the info.

Ski Faster can confirm this, But They're is no ski or rope requirements in any classes except in Social and Pro-social. So i wouldn't see any reason you couldn't use any ski or rope you want. As far as wrapping up, the only class you can not do this in is HANDS OUT FRONT. Hence the name.

That is correct. Any length line and ski will be allowed in F3. The class has been popular in Europe, just hasn't really been introduced hear yet. It has a class for F3 in the mini marathons, and if there was interest, I am sure it would be added to the circles if there is the demand.

Old style 2.5 260 cowling but exactly what was underneath I'm not so sure. I know the hull was not particularly light weight as it will be raced next season. At least one other new Bernico has been ordered for England, that one is to be powered by a 300XS.

That is MPH, it's just the distance travelled that's metric.

That is mph, if it was Kilometers the boat would be running like 60mph.. :D and not be so impressive.

You don't have to learn it.. Next time you get in your car though just look at the speedo. Inside it'll usually have KPH.. You'll notice they are just less than double.

New hull, built specifically to take the long shaft 3 litre motors. The old F2 was built for a 15" shaft, the weight and height of the 300XS upset it's centre of gravity. There was a yellow one with a 250 Etec in the Worlds but the race venues chosen meant you couldn't really see how quick it was.

Cool thanks... Honestly I probably knew the answer but I'm a slacker and if I can get someone to answer something for me, why waste the brain cells

Cool boat either way. Whats on the back towards the motor? wind damper?

I guess at over 100mph with limited horsepower the aerodynamics play an important part. Some of the earlier pictures from Coniston show it without the wing/spoiler. The other English boat will not have it fitted.
