2. Long straight or short angle?
Does the sound change much with a longer tip?

All depends on how your exhaust are today in relation to the water level at the transom, whether they come out above waterline or below, and whether they are wet or dry exhaust.

Pics of what you got now (from the outside as well as from the inside) would be helpful.
