How hard is it to replace this. How do I go about it.
Would that be a gayliner with a big blockI've always taken them out of my boats, all they do is rattle around and make noise especially when the rubber comes off the tips/ends.
I've hydro locked this engine before shutting off the ignition when a wake came up behind me so I think they are important.I've always taken them out of my boats, all they do is rattle around and make noise especially when the rubber comes off the tips/ends.
Thats's what I was thinking unfortunately. They are slash cut but I'm thinking of replacing them with straight cut and putting the rubber flap on the outside for future ease.Gotcha. If it's a thru transom tip, they are sometimes welded in. It's almost cheaper and easier to replace the whole tip or throw a rubber flapper on the back if you have a straight cut tip. Some companies offer rebuilds on their tips like Hardin I believe
I see this flapper thread turning into a train wreck based on some new poster we got ...With good external flappers you don't need the internal flappers also.
Are you compensating for somethingSorry, I've never had a small block in a boat before.
Are we still talking about boats? With good external flappers you don't need the internal flappers also.
No, I like my motors to match my dick. Are you compensating for something

Yeah, I think the outside ones are called labia majora. Are we still talking about boats?

Hell ya thank you!I've replaced those before, they aren't bad. Sometimes they are welded in, yours are not. Yours have two small brass pieces on each side that press into two holes and those hold the flapper in. You should remove the exhaust tip, then you can drill or hammer out those brass pieces and finally the flapper will come out. To reinstall you install the flapper and put the brass pieces in each end and press or hammer them on. Make sure to install the flapper with the beveled edges facing the outside of the boat. Imco sells the style flapper you need.
Yes. If you are concerned with water getting in through the exhaust cut the internal ones out and put exterior flappers on there. With good external flappers you don't need the internal flappers also.

I did that to one of mine and finding new ones was almost next to impossible because they were made by Rex Marine and they are no more.Yeah I was saying if the ones I currently have are welded in Ill replace with straight tips without a flapper and buy the rubber external one. But since they aren't welded in I don't have to go that route.
Yeah Im starting to lean towards cutting the angle off with a cutoff wheel and using the rubber flapper. Done and done no disassembling the exhaust.I did that to one of mine and finding new ones was almost next to impossible because they were made by Rex Marine and they are no more.
