It is working how it should. The gravity makes it drop so you just have to spin the handle CCW to lift. MAG drills are a great tool just make sure you tie it off if you’re using it on a wall on ceiling. If someone unplugs it or breaker trips it will lose its magnet and come crashing down.

Perfect thank you

Very handy tool, very expensive, and yes, tie it off. Usually, as pointed out, there is a tension screw opposite the crank. I have also seen models that one of the handles on the crank doubles as the tensioner. I've used one before to drill into truck frames and also "red iron" on metal buildings. They sure aren't light!

They are especially useful on thick gage steel. For instance, I use them a lot on drilling into I beams in substations for mounting equipment when the web is bigger than a C punch can handle. We also use them for drilling in steel power poles

There should be a wing nut on the side of the slide to hold it up.
Found the wing nut thank you. I’ll use that to hold it up while it’s not being used on the table and then gravity while I’m drilling holes. I was going to order a standing drill press but this might be more than enough for how often I’ll be using it.

I’ll drive my truck in sometime next week and take them to my house if someone wants them. They aren’t going to fit in the volt 😝
