I just took Barker to lunch and we went to Sam’s place.. I went outside to smoke and am eyeballing a motorhome with a rzr behind it and a truck with a new 27’ Speedster parked right next to it. Not sure if they are together or not? I assumed they were.

I got to thinking though about when I lived in San Diego, how excited I would get when I saw a performance boat or an offroad car on the streets or on the freeway.

It’s impossible to drive more than a minute or two out here and not see something that you would never see in most cities across America.

Anyhow this stood out to me.. It is a 27’ Speedster with a 1350 in it. The owner had another 27’ with an 1100 in it before this one. I believe it’s getting delivered this weekend and will be heading to Alabama?

Pretty cool to goto lunch and see a 1/1 boat. Kinda surprised Eliminator didn’t hit me up to do a write up on it? I certainly would have!

Did he have the orange 27 before? Eliminator killed it with this one. Graphics is on point.

I believe so.. I think they only ever built one 6 drive 27 before and it was the same guy.

So the new one has a 1350 and a #8 drive, basically identical colors. Note the exhaust pipes come out differently also. Did Shane Gray order a new one? Let's see the invoice, I heard the original cost of the boat Albert now owns!

I forgot to mention, Alabama registration, not AZ.

Is he a builder and owns tailer parks? If so he also had a yellow 27 with 565' and his son had a DCB with a matching Sunsation some years ago. Good people

I have no idea. I just see it on the trailer by blue water all the time.

The one you have a photo of is my buddy Albert's boat with Merc 1100 and a #6 drive. Sort of a shame they felt the need to copy the graphics and colors, but my first guess is that with the Alabama registration on the other boat, perhaps Shane Gray ordered a new one and requested the same color scheme. Until I started looking closer I called Albert and asked him where his boat was.

Exhaust comes out of transom higher maybe because of the M8 drive verses the M6,..what a beast that thing must be...would love see the invoice..

The one Dave posted is Shane’s new boat. Similar scheme, red in place of orange, and black, no fade to gray like the one your pal has now.

The hatch is a one off deal on this new one. Exhaust is different, obviously the larger drive on the new one.
A few subtle interior differences.
Is a bad bitch!! 👍

Beautiful.

I don't even want to know the total cost. What’s the motor and drive package sitting on a pallet set you back $200k+ ?

Caused by that blob of a torque tab that was welded on there.
So in general did the welding job weaken it (ie poorly done) or just the amount of force the torque tab was causing? Too big of a tab?

Usually when you weld the 2.5 sport master stuff it breaks.
So people use epoxy instead. Not sure about this application though. Curious if it broke going straight or on a turn.

This right here. This is what I love about Havasu that you don’t get anywhere else in the country. You can go to LOTO or FL, but if it’s not a poker run weekend, all you’ll see is pontoons and fishing boats.

Havasu was built around performance boating and I’ve yet to find anywhere else like it.

Wasn’t there two others? One with a similar design to this, and one orange one that @ChrisV mentioned.
I do believe the "orange" one you are referring to is a 28 Speedster they did with a single engine 1350/M8 Setup. Was the first and last they wont do a single engine 28 speedster anymore because of how many issues they had with that boat. I was told directly in an email I still have they will not do a single engine 28 speedster. And that particular boat from what Shueman shared here had tons of problems getting on plane. As far as this new 27 Speedster I have been told the M8 is not a good drive for these single engine setups the M6 is much better for these boats but as most know Mercury will not warranty a 1350 without using the M8 drive.

I should add just because the M6 is better for this setup does not mean I dont absolutely love this boat. Its beautiful and to me its the perfect lake boat. Seats up to 5 run well over 130 and gets there very quick, and is all you really need for a lake boat. All the massive twin engine stuff does it look cool sure, does it go fast sure, but is it all absolutely over kill for a lake boat yes it is beyond overkill.

And just for clarification there have been I believe 3 27 Speedsters built with 6 drives. Two of the three were both built by and for Shane Gray originally first one was a Merc 700/ 6 drive and wasn't "fast enough", so he built the 27 Speedster pictured above with the Merc 1100/6 drive. The third with a 6 drive I am not sure who that was for but it was white and red. And now there is the new one with a M8 just for clarification.

Exhaust comes out of the Transom higher nothing to do with the drive at all. It is due to the height of the Merc 1350 and needing to be straight piped off the turbos. Any angle changes in the pipes coming off the turbos would have caused a number of issues in power reduction. This is info straight from Eliminator.

Your buddy Albert owns a great boat, but I will say this 27 Speedster with the 1100 has changed ownership somewhere around 4-6 times in total since it was built for Shane Gray. The new owner of the 27 with the 1350 also use to own the 27 with the 1100 that your buddy Albert now owns. So he didnt copy his boat, he essentially built a newer version of his old boat so hard to fault him for that. But both boats are badass and both owners got a great boat.

Pretty sure they ran out of time, Dave.
They had it buttoned up and Jake took it to the lake for a quick shakedown.
He brought it back like this😳

It took quite a while for the replacement to come in.
That'll take your breath away. I commend you for uploading this, often times people wont mention the bad stuff even though they should. Would like to know what caused this or if it was multiple things. Also glad it didn't make contact with the hull when it separated that boat is beautiful would of been awful to see it get messed up before delivery.

Awesome parking area at Sam’s + the “Club Sandwich”. We always exit onto London Bridge Road after breakfast instead of 95. LB Road defines LHC .
