Dually truck owner question

Do you guys with duallys drop the tire pressures down when not towing to help with the daily driver ride or is changing over to a tire with more of an all terrain tread and more rubber help? Tires are at 80 now.

Very happy with the truck, first dually, drives like you on the living room couch when towing as fifth wheel.

Needs a leveling kit as well.

And if anyone wants a nice 2500 Cummins 4x4 with low miles let me know. It’s in Alabama but the price would make it worthwhile to ship, $42k.

When I had my 3500 Cummins dually I tried dropping the tires down, but it didn't do much for ride quality. I don't know if you still have the stock Nexen tires, but when I go rid of those it helped. If you keep the Nexen tires, keep an eye on them as they do have a tendency to separate.

The Carli leveling kit and 35 inch Toyo's will get your ride quality pretty good though.

Yeah they come with the Nexens, definitely want to do the Toyos, just gotta figure garage height. My 2500 with 35’s barely fit into the 7’ door.

I also run weight in bed when not towing the trailer. usually have 4 50lb sand bags in the back.
They also make water bladders you can use

instead of dropping the pressure I'd throw a couple of bales of hay in the back. You need some weight back there.

Check the vin tag on the door or b pillar for tire psi recommendation, if you have stock size tires. 80psi is too much, especially on the steer axle. I run 62 psi on my SRW steer axle. 70 psi on the rear.

I always run less PSI when I'm not towing.....No reason to have 80 psi with daily driving...

I do similar. 75 rear, 60 front. SRW.

@ONE-A-DAY only so much you can do…stuff leafs, assuming you have bags as well and they only go down to a certain min pressure. As said above shocks help. I run A/t transforce tires…Look into them. Ran the same on my old dually. Carli makes aftermarket spring packs as well.

How about running airbags in the back? I had them on my old f350 dually back in the day and it helped out a lot to smooth out the ride. I ran 20-30 psi in them.

I run 45 rear and about 60 front. Helps some as nothing have heavy to carry anymore but cost to much to replace it.

Not that Walt would ever go the cheapest route, but about 4-6 80# bags of concrete mix in the back of the bed will help, and maybe you don't need that leveling kit so much anymore.

Pretty sure his new truck has ram air...like mine you don't have much control over it..its a computer managed setup. The 3500's don't drop down like the 2500's either.

83K, I believe its a tradesman, but it had the factory options for cloth seats and carpet, I added the factory rear view camera, recent tires, complete front end rebuild, bilsteins, 5th wheel rails, air bags, bed cover, etc.

I took secondary overloads out and run bags, instead of leveling the from I dropped the rear via shackle. I didn't want to mess with front end geometry (keep in mind my truck is IFS and not solid axle)

Truck originally came with these super high ply rated tires and anything over like 35 psi with no weight would just rattle your teeth out. With a load you could bump pressure up accordingly and it would be fine. Not gonna hurt anything other than your kidneys.

Adjust as necessary with weight.

I keep my tires at 75 front 45 rears. If towing maybe 55. 03 dodge dually 4x4.

At 80 your rears are gonna wear the center

Yes. Fox's are great shocks, I also run them on my Wrangler and will be putting them on my new to me '02 Super Duty. They helped smooth the ride out on the dually. Carli also makes great stuff for Rams, but they are bit more expensive.

We are doing a Carli kit on a buddies kids f250. Pretty nice parts they make. not cheap by any means.

Having been driving duallys as a daily driver since the late 80's....this is what I prefer. 50 psi in the rears and 60psi in the front. I also run Michelins. I have tried others brands and nothing seems to run true and as smooth as Michelins. I also used to keep some sand bags over the rears when I didn't have a load. It helped, but I am now older and it is too much trouble to bother with. When I have a load I up the pressures. BTW if you live in So Cal and know the Angeles Crest and Angeles Forest Hwy I get the dually thru there better than 90% of the cars. The tires do have grip to them. Not rock hard.
