Was listening today to the sports guys I listen to and they were dicussing the renewed popularity of drive ins in Germany and S. Korea. Are you up for the drive in movies to come back? Also is this the demise for movie theaters? Would you rather see first run movies at home now? Personally, I only go to movies maybe once a year and can do without peeps on their phone and such.

...I was going to the movies once a week IAMC theaters...
...As the pandemic most likely will be around for quite awhile...A Drive in movie sounds pretty good right now...
...I’m in No Ho and there certainly isn’t much of anywhere close by to build one...
...The last one I’ve seen standing iis in Sanger Ca...It is no longer in use...primarily a swap meet...
... I have no idea what it would cost to convert it over to digital???...
anybody have an operating drive in near them???...

The problems with drive in movies are the amount of room they take. I'd love to see them back, had one we'd go to every once in a while in the Montclair area, the "Tiki" I think. Worked out good, kid would fall asleep in the car and wife and I would watch a movie. 14-15 years ago, worked out ok. Problem is, people would rather have it at home I think now. Heck, people get Taco Bell delivered.

I'm just a fan of Americana, old cars, music and the way things were. Born in the wrong era.

We have a drive-in theater here in Nevada. It’s right by the N. Las Vegas airport.
We used to go when the kids were little. Set up chairs, open up back of SUV with blankets and pillows. Cheap too- I think it was $16 for the 5 of us. We would invite other families and have 3-4 cars in a group. Cool thing about this theater is—if you didn’t like the second movie, you could drive along the front area and enter another movie, even though your not supposed to they never seemed to care.
It was a lot of fun. Glad I was able to raise my children with a drive in movie experience. We always talk about going again but always busy with something else-you know...

I’m not really a movie buff so won’t go but there is an operating drive-in theater here in Dade City Fl. Busy swap meet on the weekends and seems to show current films. It is closed right now for this mess. Hope it reopens with same success

I watched a cool documentary on Amazon a while back about the golden age of drive ins and their death. Look it up it's pretty good. I won't share my drive in memories on RDP but I was 15 if that says anything lol

I really miss the drive-in theaters. Used to go to Van Nuys and Winnetka growing up.

I dont have a 30k dollar surround sound system so I go to the theaters, for certain movies at least.

There are 2 operating ones I know of in California. Ironically both on the central coast. 1 in Santa Maria and 1 in San Luis Obispo. The one in SLO is quiet popular and is a good deal for the double features they have on Wednesday evenings.

We did a Drive In Movie in the parking lot of a local business in Havasu last Saturday. It was awesome!

Definitely miss Pickwick, no popcorn crunchers, cell phone turds, get out and stretch, hanging in that back row😎🍻🍻🍻😅. Pickwick was iconic in my youth. Sure wished I grabbed a window hanger (or 10) from there.

Ah Drive In's..... I spent many nights in the back of my truck "trying to watch a movie" throughout high school and shortly after graduating. Those were the days!!

Why not a mobile service. Large inflatable movie screen, wireless speakers handed at entrance, parking lots that are unoccupied at night? Permits are fairly cheap for movies.

I belive we have 3 in So Cal 2 in riverside and one in Santee.
San Diego county has at least two. In addition to Santee drive in (that you mentioned) we also have South Bay drive in. My kids can’t wait to go back to the drive in movies.

If you're in Riverside, the Van Buren location is much better than the Rubidoux drive-in. Way too much noise from the 60 frwy there.
We went about a month ago. Right after rhe Corona virus closed the walk-in theaters. Seemed like great in the face of social distancing.
Turned out that that was the very last night for them to be open. Can't understand why a drive-in theater is not acceptable these days.

yea, they JUST closed the Riverside one last week. They were showing up until then though. Seems pretty lame that they close them, gotta give people SOME kind of outlet.

I can't see drive ins being closed, unless they can't get new movies to show.

There's one here in the high desert, Skyline Drive In, Barstow. They closed it due to the virus. BS

Used to take dates to the Santa Fe Springs and Highway 39 ones back in the day.
Still take the grand-kids about once a year the Vineland one in City of Industry. Can be a cluster fuk at times though.
