I thought that sounded great. Now my question is, is he a really good singer or is this just a good song? Like could any decent singer sound good singing this song or is he as good as Whitney and Dolly? I don't know anything about singing except that I can't do it.

Good singers can surely cover great songs well. That's why so many artists do it. The measure to me is how many of those performances are truly memorable and elicit deep emotion from ourselves?

Erik's incredible talent is undeniable, but the way he makes these songs (and many others you need to check out) a real story with the emotion in his voice is so F'n awesome! His version of Oh Holy Night ranks right up there with Celine's and maybe one or two more, IMO. I will be cranking this song, LOUD!, every Holiday Season from here on out.

I'm not a singer, but I am a musician and IMHO even the greatest singers can't save a bad song, so basically it takes both to be really good. A great song can help a mediocre artist, but he certainly isn't mediocre.

The problem with singing a song that’s been done by Whitney, is that no one is ever as good as her. This is Whitney’s version, and while his karaoke version of it is very good, Whitney was still better and I’d rather listen to her version.

Dollys version of the song is good too, but it’s different and she’s a different type of singer.

I get it what you are saying. Erik is a different type of singer than both Dolly and Whitney. He does the song justice and I think the karaoke comment is unwarranted, IMO. Especially as a male from a totally different genre.

The reason I say Karaoke is because he’s doing a version of her song and trying to do just like her and follow her runs. It sounds like he’s trying to copy her exactly imo. He’s a talented singer and I said it’s very good, but if you’re not going to make the song your own and you’re gonna copy Whitney, then it is what it is. Just my opinion.
