So after years of doing this type of stuff at my 9-5 job, and doing these types of installations for friends like @wash11 and @The Chicken , I've decided to try to actually make some money doing what I'm good at...

The premise is to help people with large properties, large homes or just terrible WiFi coverage to fix their poorly performing WiFi by installing mesh network gear or adding point to point connections and WiFi gear to remote buildings, shops, barns or garages...

My service area is pretty much anywhere in Arizona or just on the other side of the Colorado River.

I've formed the LLC, Remote Connectivity Solutions LLC, and now I just need some customers who want to fix their shitty WiFi... Does your WiFi suck?

what hardware are you guys using??

I've done 6-8 Ubiquiti Unifi systems (some including Unifi cams) in friends and families homes. I've been pretty happy with it, and best of all, i can remotely admin these sites from wherever I'm at.

I might give you a call when we get to that point. Building on 36 acres in Prescott with multiple outbuildings, will use Starlink at the house, running some Cat 6 to the shop but not really sure that is the best plan is for the barn and other areas.

There is a new thread on this in the Starlink FB groups daily, sometimes twice daily, so you may find customers there. They might get aggro about you advertising but maybe a good place to fish for work or mention you do this.

On a related note, perhaps a good move to sell "kits" for folks outside AZ at some point. Just a lot of customer support burden potentially.

This is exactly what Yarder handled for us. Starlink is at the house, but we needed good signal in several other areas to monitor equipment and freezers etc. What we ended up with is a halo of about 9 acres where the signal strength and speed is exactly the same as standing next to the Starlink router. It's been 1.5 years, zero issues with it- it's never gone down. You kind of forget it's there.

Primarily Ubiquiti, connected to Starlink. They just work.

Ubiquiti has a strong product line with a great integration system. I have used them personally and we have a few on tanks at work for short hops, been in service for years. Just keep the authentication strong and updates fresh.

This might be more of a problem with my phone than the wifi, but my biggest annoyance with my Wi-Fi is that my phone will try to stay connected to Wi-Fi when I'm down the street, but that far away it has very little bandwidth to actually do something. So I end up switching Wi-Fi off as I leave my house so that my Spotify/maps don't get wonky when my phone is transitioning from to LTE. Any solutions to that?

You are brave for opening up to this group here. :) Connectivity is not their strong point!

Remember to charge for perpetual support, as you will be supporting these all along as well after the installs.

All joking aside, if you were to travel to Socal I could sub some work your way.

I'm not sure what to charge for perpetual support, lol, but support is just part of the deal.

Sorry, I'm not sure how to solve that one for you...

Well when you decide to expand come out here to santa clarita, i need wifi from the house to the barn in the backyard, of course there are things like a pool and cement in between the two,

Definitely need to figure out some MRR for this. Not easy for residential but if you get enough customers it adds up. For UNIFI I would charge for controller access.

Monthly recurring revenue

Presumably a monthly retainer of some sort.

Probably more practical for commercial clients. Keeps you afloat with steady money but the problem is that it’s a “when it rains it pours” customer support situation.

For what it’s worth- Yarder set this up in such a way that I’ve not needed any tech support since day one. I’ve had to shut down the power source a couple of times to work on other things and everything comes back up on its own. It’s been truly hands off.

Until it doesn't work , Sir. :) Then his phone will be blowing up. Just trying to save him some headaches before he starts out.

Like @paradise mentioned, needs to charge for controller at a minimum. I use Hostifi, makes it easy to manage, but costs involved.

I do appreciate the heads-up on this potential issue. I'll have to work out how I cover my time for things like tech support...
