KBB says Trade-in is $3,713 (Very Good) and a dealer would likely not write him a check for more than $3,000 for that Truck IMHO.
Private Party $4,763 (Very Good)......It looks like he has it priced pretty good and will likely sell it for somewhere between 3K and $3,500 in this market.
In the end it's a relatively low end version of the Dakota with some options but definately not loaded so depending on condition sounds like he has it priced right
...they are a GREAT "little" truck, and that's a good package right there..RE: front end..the stock wheel bearings are junk. My guy changed em out and upgraded mine at 50k. I have had zero issues and am at 170k as I write this. I had a 2001 Durango too and that was a machine. The work truck is a 2003 Dakota w/a V-8 SLT crew cab. I would/will get another..
I Have owned nearly two dozen Chrysler products since 1978. Started out with a 440 GTX, over time had 11 Roadrunners and still have a 70 Coronet awaiting restoration. Some of my favorites were 4 cylinder turbo Shelby Daytonas and Rampages. I'm currently am driving my 5th Dodge Ram.
I would never tell a friend to buy a Dakota. Down on power and economy with that motor and lots of reliability issues.
We still have our 98 Dakota, bought it new ordered with the last of the Magnum 360, have had some issues with the front end but overall has been very good to us, I'm looking to start restoring it to original condition with some body work, fix the drivers seat and upgrade the Bose/Infinity system, Does anybody know of or can recommended a good suspension lift kit, looking for 4-6" lift, it currently has add a leaf rear and torqued up the torsion bars up front, running 32x 11.5 BFG, she has 185,000 miles and only some minor motor issues she still lights up the rear end when she need too....thanks for any recommendations on a good suspension lift..... wedge
My wife's work has 3 Dakotas all 2000's and all running, my wife's has the 4.7 v8 and has just turned 250,000 miles. The only work done to it was recently when they had to replace the water pump and housing. Other then the normal stuff like brakes and oil changes she has had no major issues and I would drive it anywhere. She averages around 14 miles to the gallon around town it's a good thing she doesn't have to pay for fuel.
My brother-in-law has a '98 dakota v8 with just over 300,000 miles on it and has had no major engine work but did replace the tranny a little while back.
